When is this announcement? All I've seen on various other sites is vague "soon"s. Anybody know the candidates?

I don't think the new President has officially started yet....I imagine the AD hire will come afterwards. But sure would be nice to have the new AD in place soon, before we lose Grimes. Also, it is never too early to start the search process for a new basketball coach.

Poster "Hokie Family" on TSL said Greg Roberts reported tonight the finalists are (in no particular order):

1) Chris Plonsky Texas Women's Director of Athletics;
2) Warde Manuel UConn AD;
3) Michael Kelly (Chief Operating Officer at College Football Playoff);
4) Whit Babcock University of Cincinnati;
5) Jeff Bourne JMU AD; and
6) John Ballein (VT)

You'd like to think that whoever it is would be an improvement over Weaver. He made some notable mistakes (Why the f did he fire Greenberg?), but nobody can argue that VT football didn't improve on his watch.

I'd say get someone who is well-connected with either the SEC or the Big 10. This has to be someone who can reel in a quality basketball coach, and a great football coach.

As a native Cincinnatian, I can tell you that UC's athletic facilities suck, although he has put together some initiatives to update the football statdium, what few Olympic sports they have aren't good, and he hired Tommy Tubberville. UC's athletic program was poorly run prior to his hiring, but I am not sure about the overall impact he had. I am skeptical.

I would like to hear what kind of plans he has for VT's facilities, football in the post-Beamer era, and re-vamping the Hokie Club.

So Whit Babcock is our guy.

I got nothing outside of the fact that his name is pretty WASPy.

Unlike this board, other ones seem VERY positive about the hire.

I'm not upset with the hire. I have high hopes. I think the Cincy job was a tough one to gauge his body of work because it was so poorly run when he got there. If he can raise money like he did at UC, I'll be thrilled. The major issue and legacy for any AD candidate coming in, is what his long-term plan is with the football staff.

Seems like a nice guy, has a focus on fundraising, and I'm sure he can work with other ADs to figure out schedules and what not.

Can he negotiate with premium coaches? Can he handle VT's upcoming challenges with FB eventual retirement and JJ's situation with basketball? I guess we'll find out. If he can talk in front of a camera, that will be a true bonus. Right now we don't know much about him.

Seems like he tries to address concerns and wants from the majority....so long to Hokie Respect compaign and noon and 1:30 games against smaller opponents? Welcome back "stick-it-in"? Reseating for basketball that gets the students around the court?
