One I need to see. Big Tom Cruise fan, though not so much on Jamie Foxx

The extra features on the DVD involving the work that went into lighting the cab alone are worth watching. Very educational about how much WORK goes into making movie magic.

Were you a big fan of Heat and/or Mann in general?

He's uneven. Heat and Collateral from a cinematography/editing standpoint are two of the best action movies ever made. Miami Vice was weak. So was Blackhat, I think he mailed that one in.

You may still not like it, I can't predict what you'll like or won't. It's still educational because it goes into intricate detail about lighting.

Interesting. I read an interesting article about Kubrick’s innovativeness in shooting Barry Lyndon (3.5/5 stars) without electric light. The guy was truly light years ahead of his time.

That’s about all I’ve ever read in relation to lighting in film.

They spent months custom building lighting to fit inside the body of the multiple cabs they created for the film. To make the pictures look great, but also look natural. And that's the art of it. I haven't read about Lyndon, but I assume he wanted to look as natural as possible.

The advances in lighting, notably LED's, have been pretty incredible in the last 15 years.

The Shape of Water 3.8/5

I was expecting more action and less beastiality but as far as beastiality goes it doesn’t cross the line, and was actually kind of hot.

I've read that about it too. It's an incredibly beautiful film almost like the artwork of the period. So I really like it for that.

But the story is just so.. boring.

Disagree. The building tension in that movie is SOOO well done. Maybe you were just sleepy or something when you watched it?

The Crazies............For a horror movie, there was not much too be scared about. Not even a "shock me" scene so to speak in there......but still a good movie to watch once..............rate a 3 of 5 stars.

Black Panther

Pretty badass superhero film. Some of the tribal fighters were a tad overdramatized & silly, but overall it was a solid flick. Great storyline & they tied it into the Marvel universe really well. Had hoped for a better climax but it wasn't bad.

7/10

Avengers Infinity War

7.9/10

Some of the humor seemed forced.

I wanted to punch Chris Pratt in the face during that one scene. You might know what I’m taking about. I’m trying to keep this spoiler free.

I haven't see Infinity War, but there were probably numerous scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy (3/5 stars) in which I wanted to punch Pratt and whoever wrote the movie and directed the script.

"Ha! We're going to be unfunny and awkward, and it will be funny. <Insert '80s song> And that's a wrap!"

Blue Velvet: 2.5/5 stars. A technical achievement for pretentious douchebags indeed; but to what end- To what end, David Lynch?

(I am making a thread on this.)
