Two decades after their 'toothpaste incident,' Gary Payton and Jim Moore finally make amends

With no NBA section might as well put it here. Anyway a good read.

On not letting his jersey be retired in Oklahoma City: “It’s nothing against them. Seattle fans deserve … that they can come to a game and see that my jersey is raised … We don’t know what’ll happen. I hope that Seattle, our team gets back very, very soon. In 20 and 30 years or whatever happens, I don’t know what’ll happen. If I’m not here and my family wants to decide to go in Oklahoma if we don’t have a (team), that’s on them. Right now, I think Seattle is the place where I should hang my jersey up.”

I would throw up if I saw Peyton's jersey hung in the Thunders rafters.

GP is one of my all time favorite athletes. It probably isn't too hard to take his comment as a bit of an arrogant remark, but I totally agree -- all of us Sonics fans absolutely deserve to see his jersey hung up in an arena where the Sonics are playing.

How would it be perceived as arrogant? He never played in OKC. He fought against the move. No reason at all why he should have a link to that team.

Because he's talking about himself in high regard. I'm not suggesting he has some link to OKC.

Personally, I prefer the high road by telling Oklahoma to fuck off.

9x All-Star, 9x All-NBA (1st, 2nd or 3rd team),9x All-NBA Defensive 1st team, Only PG to win NBA Defensive Player of the Year, 31st All-Time in scoring, 8th All-Tine in Assists, 4th All-Time in Steals. Considered to be one of, if not the best defensive guard of all-time.

I think that he has earned the right to hold himself in high regard when it comes to NBA matters.

Payton is a perfect example of how our opinions change on athletes as time passes. All the angst I read about Sherman, Gary was THE loud-mouth punk of all loud-mouthed punks.

He NEVER shut up. Ever.

But because some time has passed, that's A-OK.

Sherman? Not so much.

But did Payton get into a screaming match with any of his coaches on the side line? Did he ever pull George Karl over and go off on him in the middle of a game? Payton talked trash to the players he played against and backed it up. Sherm should not and can not get into a screaming match with his coaches on the side lines. I have no problem with Sherm talking on the field cause he can back it up but Sherm needs to realize he can jeopardize team moral with those antics. Keep it in house. I'm a big Sherm fan and hope he retires a Hawk.

Absolutely had had his run-in's with Karl. It's fair to say they had a 'complicated' relationship.

On the court in front of everybody?

If it did, I certainly don't remember.

I seriously would pay somebody to tear it down. I couldn't handle that as GP is probably my favorite Seattle athlete.

Good thing it'll never happen so your bank account is safe.

Sure. In his first couple of seasons, before he started to really light it up, it was a pretty popular sentiment to ship his ass outta' town. Dare I say, the 'B' word was thrown around a bit about him, and i don't mean biatch.
