A season that began with so much optimism and potential, it's starting to look very likely that these Nuggets could miss the playoffs for the fifth straight season.
Ultimately their undoing is going to be too many uncertain roles, with too much big men depth and not enough backcourt play. There's been plenty of speculation that Malone will lose his job if this in fact is the case. I personally don't think Malone should be fired, for I believe he's done the best he could with the hand he's been given. But, there are plenty of folks on RealGM that are calling for his head.
Then, there's the fact that we're going to have to sign Nikola Jokic to a ridiculous deal this summer in order to prevent him from hitting the open market in unrestricted free agency in 2019, and in spite of recent rumors of increasing animosity between Jokic and certain members within the organization.
The hope now is that with more clarity on rotational roles, perhaps by shedding front court depth, along with a full healthy season on Millsap as well as another added potential lottery pick, that different results are in store for 2018-19.
It's all we could hope for, at least.
