This is an actual exchange that happens:

Herm Edwards: "Is that a girl's jersey?"
ASU employee: "No...This is a game jersey"
Herm: "This is a GAME JERSEY?!?!?

Herm continues to be baffled by the fabric of a modern game jersey.....

Does anybody know why they selected him?

It doesn't make any sense to me. Usually, I can find some angle that somebody might
be thinking, but for the life of me, I can't find any reason why ASU would have settled
on him.

IMO it's a "Head Coach in Waiting" situation without naming one because of the associated recruiting prohibitions put in place in 2010. Herm is a placeholder until newly named Associate Head Coach Billy Napier is ready to take over the reigns.

Seems to me they fired Graham and Edwards is retaining the entire staff and is going to run it like a CEO. Great gig for Edwards but I don’t see this being overly effective.

I said it in another thread - ASU has jumped the shark.

Congratulations Tennessee, it's impossible you fuck up your hire worse than this.

OK...Thanks. It makes some sense like that.

It will probably help Napier when he takes over. I would imagine after two years of Herm
the entire state will be ready for any change.

I like him, No idea how he will do but I’d be willing to bet he kills it in a living room while recruiting, I said that about him years ago, he should have went college right after his NFL days. Gut says he will be a good recruiter.

Gonna be interesting to see how he does, I’m rootin for him.

I actually think it might work.

Despite not working out at Clemson Napier is a solid coach, but he's only got three years of coordinator experience and only one of those was at ASU. Edwards can come in and with his head coaching experience further groom him and in a few years hand it off to a much surer thing than it would have been hiring him this year. Between working with Edwards and his experience working for Saban, Swinney and playing under former Furman coach Bobby Johnson he's got a great pedigree.

It absolutely is possible to fuck it up more, they have already hired one, cut ties, flew another in, and then backed out of that, got shut down by coaches at shit programs, and still haven’t hired any one. ASU hired a guy with Alzheimer’s.

Oh, this isn't all the stuff that's gone on with Herm so far.

It's bad, really really bad.

ASU basically bought a load of marketing bullshit.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Basically going to assume the role Mack Brown had at Texas. Try and recruit at an elite level, kiss ass to the boosters and raise money, be a CEO for the program and let your assistants handle the X's and O's.

Herm is out of touch and that's being nice.

Not really. Any father in the country would love for his son to play for him. This dude is going to kill it in the family home similar to how the Bobby Bowdens, Mack Browns, Sabans, etc of the college football world do.

His staff is pretty decent, too. Napier is the coach in waiting, and he'll learn a lot from Herm.

Thought I had read that he was tight with someone in the AD's office. He's a friend and was brought in as such?

The AD was his agent at one point.
I knew it had something like that on it. Gave it nothing more than a brief thought at the time because I was too busy laughing overall about the hire to care about the details.

Replace the guy that steals signals and was a real pain the ass with Grandpa that hasn't been in the game since tablets were even invented, more or less used as key tools. We good with that.
