2nd he would rather take a chance on a RP that has 1 start over a closer who doesnt always get saves in a week

Nolasco pitched reasonably well in the Cactus League this spring, producing a 3.52 ERA over four starts. Still, it's never a great sign when Ricky Nolasco is your team's No. 1 starter. At least the Angels have Mike Trout, right?

Richards is a good number two pitcher and Shoemaker and Skaggs are young. That's nothing like the padres rotation.
