All that matters is he shows up for work. The talks of contract and stuff will fall to the side once TC gets underway.

So long as he outplays his contract, he can bitch. Everyone wins.

A non event unless he holds out, which I would bet against.

If he holds out, it's a problem. If it negatively impacts his play on the field, it's a problem. Otherwise, he's not saying anything we haven't heard him say before.

I'd say 9 times out of 10, he's not the one who brings it up first when he talks to the media anyway. I know that the media is trying to sell papers/get clicks/have something to talk about on the radio, podcasts and TV, and controversy certainly helps in that regard, but I also think that enough newsworthy stuff happens organically that they don't need to beat a dead horse like this for material. Nothing about this story has changed in about a year and if anything were to change, we'd hear about it from the people involved. I'm convinced that the media wants him to say that he's going to holdout so they can have something to write/talk about for the next 6 weeks.

Now that TC will be getting underway, I suspect this topic will go away.

If Bennett thinks (along with other players) he's a team leader then I think it's not good enough to just show up and make all the bitching ok. Leaders don't bitch about their personal situations and don't bitch to their subordinates about higher. Leaders are held to a higher standard of behavior that way.

And he's 30 with 2 more years on his current deal, which means his best football will be behind him when this one is done. If it isn't already. If he gets any sort of substantial pay bump at this point, it'll come across to me as a reward contract....and those typically aren't wise moves in the NFL. If anything develops here, I hope it's just enough to shut him up for a couple years and not enough to cause salary cap issues when he's no longer here and/or playing at a high level.

It's the military.

Leadership comes in all shapes and sizes in the NFL.

I've been exposed to enough leaders outside the military that I know better than that. Leadership certainly does come in different forms, but GOOD leadership is pretty easy to spot and it's similar in all walks.

I disagree that's it's easy to spot. Leadership ultimately comes down to respect. That's a tough thing to gauge from afar because it's such a personal connection.

I could do without any political stuff when I'm watching the Hawks/NFL. Enough of that crap in the rest of my daily life, and for me SPORTS is an escape from all that junk.

Bennett showed up to the first day of training camp and said all the right things. It doesn't sound like a holdout is going to happen, as much as that might disappoint the local media members who were secretly (or not so secretly) hoping he would holdout so they'd have something to talk about.

Seahawks Defensive End Michael Bennett: “I Just Wanted To Show Up And Be A Great Teammate”

Media must have been bored to ask Bennett cause I swear months ago he already said he was showing up to camp. So I wasn't one bit surprised that he showed up.

Sounds like he was beating the shit out of every linemen he was up against and it got out of hand.

Maybe he's just trying to toughen up the o-line? Anyways, maybe MB needs to take a back seat for a few days and cool down.
