Wake now has an assistant slot to fill as Brett Ballard took a head coaching job at a DII school.

Would be interested to see if Bobby Lutz is contacted. A ton of ties to the state and his strength is coaching defense. He also has a ton of experience.

I like Lutz. He won a title at Pfeiffer College before getting the HC job at Charlotte, then moving to Assistant at NC State, and knows a whole lot of coaches in North and South Carolina.

The more I think about it, Lutz is pretty unlikely. Randolph was named Associate HC before the start of this season, so the position that is open is the #3 assistant.

Wouldn't surprise me if they just promoted the DBO.

Doesn't look like Bryant Crawford is going to test the draft waters. Probably the most under-rated player in the ACC.

Lutz is probably looking for a HC job. I don't understand why all these kids don't test the NBA with the new rules.

Never saw him on any draft boards and he's a 6'5 PF.

Yep, but he averaged a double-double at 17.8 PPG and 10.1 Rebs and was a first team All ACC and a third team All-American, plus a finalist for the Karl Malone power forward trophy. He alone will make Notre Dame a Top 10 team next season. He is a small forward at 6'5", but so was Charles Barkley.

Still...not on any draft boards. This doesn't come across as breaking news to me.

Barkley was drafted fifth after his Junior year of college.

Which would be the equivalence to being undrafted.

I know which is no doubt why he's staying put at ND for another season. But I still have to compare him with Barkley. Barkley was at Auburn for three seasons. In those three seasons he averaged 14.8 PPG and 9.6 Rebs, 4 assists, 2 steals. He was SEC POY in 1984 and second team All-American. He has absolutely been a thorn in the side of Duke.

He's a great player, no doubt. There have been a ton of great college players that just weren't well liked by the NBA, though.

I actually think Colson is a tad under-rated, because he wasn't even in any discussions for ACC POY.

I don't think you can blame him, because he's a top 20 pick. It just stinks for Wake because you thought he'd be a 3/4 year guy. I think Wake will still be good next year(8/9 seed type of team), but they could have been really special with him returning and with the recruiting class they have coming in.

Could never a blame a kid for wanting to start his career and make money.

I do think Wake will be fine. Would be awesome if he came back, but I think Manning has brought in the right pieces that this isn't a huge blow. Sam Japhet-Mathias, Doral Moore and Olivier Sarr all have tremendous potential. I think SJM (and probably Sarr who hasn't even enrolled yet) have a better chance at fulfilling their potential as Moore's basketball IQ is questionable.
