I mean for Gods sake, Donald Young just lost his 15 straight match today and he is still in the top 60. I know protecting your points from the previous year has been around for a long time but if you have lost 15 straight matches you shouldnt be getting guaranteed spots into ANY tournaments and this guy is still getting guaranteed spots into slams.

The tennis ranking system is fine with one minor exception, which you are pointing out. The problem is that players are granted 10 points automatically for entering most tour-level events. If you are playing 25+ tourneys a year, it can get you into the top 200 without winning a match. They just need to eliminate the 10 points for entering tournaments and everything would be fine.

(Of course, this is far from a simple problem. Those ten points might entice players to play more tournaments, so eliminating them might lead to empty fields. n That said, I still think it is the right thing to do. It is becoming too tough for youngsters to climb up the tennis ladder and it needs to change.)

Curious if there are any CBS forums refugees who are tennis fans? This board is looking like it's in need of contraction if not.

The tennis message board at CBS closed down long before the rest of the site. I don't know if many are left. We got used to not having a board to post on. Maybe a few more will figure out that this one exists.

Hey Old Lion I remember you from the CBS boards.

Any thoughts on Djoker win on clay vs Rafa?

I was somewhat surprised Djokovic beat Rafa especially in Monte Carlo where the clay is notoriously slow, the clay in South America tends to play much faster than the clay in Europe so a win by Djokovic there wouldnt have been as shocking but anytime Nadal loses on clay ( especially a court as slow as Monte Carlo) its surprising

As strange as it sounds, Rafa actually plays better on the faster clay courts due to his top spin being more effective.

Last year's RG final vs Djokovic is a perfect example of that. He was absolutely dominating before the rain came and slowed the court down.

French Open should be interesting. I think Djoker may finally win it this year.

Tomorrow I may start a clay season/french open thread

Hey BK, glad you made it. I am not sure. Hard to bet against Rafa. Djoker looks a bit more human this year too. Eventually he will as Rafa is only going to get slower every year from here on out.

Clay court tennis is for players who can not volley. I would watch squash or racquet ball before clay court tennis. I refuse to play it as well.

I will admit that real clay is much better than the crushed brick that most courts have. It is much firmer and you don't even have to slide if you don't want to, you can actually stop on it.

Still, I will take the other surfaces any day. I have played on Carpet, Grass, and rebound ace as well has hard courts and they are all better than even the best clay.

I'm not a fan of clay courts either but I do love tennis. The only real clay court tennis I watch is the French Open
