Does George O'Leary count? Starting to sound more and more like the great things ship has sailed. Can't take too many more of these hires.
Hey - George O'Leary never lost a game at Notre Dame.
Never coached a practice either!

Florida State had 2 straight.

Larry Jones
Darryl Mudra

Jones was probably the worst. We had 7 straight winning seasons and then
he got into trouble with the NCAA over a chicken-wire cage and that led to
the program going 0-11 in 1973.

Mudra was next. He was an excellent small-school coach with NC's at 3 schools
in Div II. I've always believed we short-changed him a bit. There were folks
that didn't like his coaching ideas. He coached from the Press Box, instead of
on the field. Too be honest, if he had won 8 or 9 games those same folks wouldn't
have cared if he coached from the Top of the Capitol. He was an extremely smart
and intellectual person. He'd rather discuss some scientific discovery or something
like that, instead of football. And what probably really turned the folks against him
was in 1975. In those days, the team would always go to the Holiday Inn up in
Quincy the night before a home game. Well, someone had told him about a new
Seafood Restaurant in the Tally area. When the team went to Quincy, before a home game
he didn't go with them, he took his wife to dinner at the Seafood Place. That didn't
sit well with anybody. He got two years and that was it.

BUT, where I've always believed we short-changed him a bit was he was rebuilding our
program. His last recruiting class became the cornerstone of Bobby's first great
teams at FSU.

Mudra's problem was his personality and mannerisms just didn't fit in at FSU or Tally.

But the school was out of money and debating dropping down to Div II or dropping the
sport all together. Burt Reynolds had gotten 4 of his pal's to chip in 50 grand
to get the program out of the red, so the school decided to make one more hire
before they would deemphasize the sport. They hired Bobby.

Easy winner for Bama. Won a Natty with Gene Stallings, and then went into a drought of 4 bad coaches.

1. Dubose
2. Franchione
3. Price
4. Shula

And then some guy named Saban.

michigan is not far behind with

Rich Rodriguez
Brady Hoke
Jim Harbaugh

All following the legendary Lloyd Carr. I'm sure they'll get out of the dark shadow they're currently in and return to the top once more though!

I would believe that the Arkansas fans would agree on John L. Smith. But to be fair, he did come in at a slightly trying time!

That is a bad trio, but I think the trio from ND tops that

lol ... 2012 beches: 12-0; #1 Ranked before getting ass handed in NCG vs NFL's 33rd team

After that, it's been shall we say ... dicey.

We're stuck with him til 2021 come hell or high water. Hopefully, he gets a DC with a pulse, someday.
Nah, if he fails to go to a bowl this year I think Kelly is gone.

But yes, ND is the king of bad coaching hires.

Maybe, but Notre Dame hasn't gone on to greatness.
Who knows how long this streak could continue for them. Every time they pick the wrong guy, it ends up in like a 5 -6 year disaster for them. I'm actually shocked Kelly ended up this bad. I thought that was a great hire at first.

Between Bobby Dodd and Bobby Ross we had a string of bad to mediocre coaches.
