Stupidest penalty on the books.

If the stick breaks, it's because the fiber sticks are designed to break in order to prevent injuries. And knocking a stick out of another players hand, should be considered a standard, and acceptable, defensive tactic.

Slashing should be on the hands and forearms; with malice.

Or players could, you know, try to get the puck.

So, you're suggesting that stay at home defensemen should basically carry sticks made of iron and just go around breaking sticks for fun?

It's been 20 years since I've played but slashing the stick was a standard tactic back then, particularly in front of the net. Yes they were wooden sticks in those days.

I'm so old, these were the last skates I wore:

Couldn't agree more.

Nothing looks more Euro-soccer-weenie then a 6'2" 210 pound guy holding a broken stick and looking for the ref to call a penalty, "see what that bad man did to me?"

Tell me Rick Nash doesn't keep one with a suspect shaft just to draw a penalty late in the game.

And this used to be legal:

And this was only a six game suspsension:

The game changes. If the players can't adapt, they've got no business playing.

I always thought that the players who played 1000 games and were presented with a silver stick should have the option of using them in games.

back when i played semi-serious hockey, I used a 110 flex for just such an emergency.
