If he can reach 50 by September, he has a chance. This is insane right now. He homers every day.

More likely that this slows down a tad, and he wins up with 55 or so. However, it's not out of the question that he could be the first player without steroid allegations to pass Maris.

Kind of funny that no one is really talking about it. If this were the 90s we all would be tracking his every at bat.

Yeah, I literally have not heard a single person mention it.

The equipment is "juiced" this year instead of the players.

And he isn't coming anywhere close to the HR King.

Mantle should have won MVP that year.

There is zero proof to suggest that the ball is juiced.

None. When that surfaces, I'll look at it.

The rise in HR's is much more likely correlated with this new-wave preaching of launch angles. Which has also coincided with a record setting two seasons for K's. Which nobody mentions nearly as much.

Stanton could very well be the only 50 HR hitter this season. The usual power guys aren't putting up ridiculous amounts of home runs. It's that 5-10 HR guys, are all becoming 15-20 HR guys.

Also, I never said he'd be the "HR king". I said he could pass Maris.

Yes there is.

There have been several studies done. It's something like 8-10 more feet of flight.

Not that it matters to me. Stanton will break himself before he gets to 62. Which isn't the record anyway.

I don't have to time to make 100% sure this the article I am thinking of, but basically, they bought a bunch of game-used balls from eBay and Amazon and then tested them. The balls from pre-ASB 2015 traveled approx 10-15 feet less than the balls from after the ASB in 2015.

In MLB’s New Home Run Era, It’s The Baseballs That Are Juicing

Trolling, basically.

But Stanton IS a beast, and deserves to be recognized, regardless...
Okay, you can recognize Stanton, but Barry Bonds holds the record for home runs in a single season at 73.

zero proof of juiced balls? There's been a pretty big increase in pitchers getting blisters and home runs are through the roof. Launch angle plays a role, but I doubt that that's the only thing going on.

...

Which is what I have been arguing this entire thread...

Okay, but the thread title says, "Stanton Could Pass Maris". Who cares about Maris, he doesn't hold the single season record for home runs.
