So you really don't actually believe Stanford is the #4 team in the nation. You just think their schedule is weak and the rest of the Pac 12 is weak outside of one game vs USC?

In terms of talent I don't think they are the #4 team in the nation. And I wouldn't say the schedule is weak, but they get UCLA, Oregon and UW at home. Their road schedule(outside of USC) is favorable IMO(I think Utah takes a step back, and Wazzu will probably be about the same as last year; a fringe top 25 team, this is a game I could see them losing). From an SOS standpoint, I would guess they'll have a top 25 schedule, but some of that will depend on San Diego State being another top 40 team, and improvement out of ND. But even last year with ND being as awful as they were they still had a top 25 SOS according to Sagarin, Massey, and FPI.

I think UCLA and Oregon will be much better, wouldn't surprise me to see one of them end up ranked at the end of the regular season. I could honestly see Oregon being 6-0 heading into game against Stanford(mostly due to a weaker schedule & getting Wazzu at home during that stretch). But yes going into Wazzu won't be easy by any stretch for Stanford. They lose their best WR and 3rd best, but should be able to replace them, one would think.

And yes, they were fortunate to play USC without Darnold, but that's not their fault. I'm not claiming that as some type of signature win because of those circumstances.

Yeah that sums it up. Shaw has been a good coach, but putting him over Harbaugh is absurd. Harbaugh took them off the scrap heap and basically restored them. Shaw just hasn't managed to crash them into a ditch. That plus putting them 4th this year with their personnel losses just makes no sense, hence why you're the only one that has them that high.

All you hear is what Harbaugh has the potential to do, but at some point, he's gonna have to get some kind of hardware to justify his spot on the coaches rankings. You know, actual results do matter.

Aren't Stanford and Ohio State's schedules pretty similar? They both play in really tough divisions. Ohio State played 4 end of year ranked teams in the regular season in 2016 (they happened to get Wisconsin) and Stanford played 3. In 2017 they each get 3 preseason ranked teams. Ohio State gets Oklahoma in back two back years while Stanford won't face a ranked opponent in the non-conference again this season. Seems about the same to me. Decent schedules for Power 5 teams but certainly not great.
