Wait. Are you trying to tell me that a pitcher's best seasons improve his overall averages?!

Holy shit, Nava. That's brilliant. I've gotta write this stuff down.

there's a pretty big difference between a 168 ERA+ (his 2nd best) and 127 ERA+ (his 3rd best).

three great years isn't a "sure HOFer"
You get two Cy Young awards and the numbers he had that early and you can just be pretty good for about a decade after that and probably make it. I doubt many people thought he wouldn't end up in the Hall back then.

I recall saying once that Dwight Gooden was probably the best pitcher I'd ever see and at the time, I could not have gotten much argument. I never thought that about Lincecum but, yeah ... it was reasonable for him to be up there with Maddox and that group.

Crazy how that guy went from a sure hall of famer to run of the mill journeyman just overnight.

I think those of us who watched him every day knew he wasn’t going to have a long career arc. He is too small and generated velocity via a funky delivery. Injuries were a question of when, not if.

I actually think Sanchez has the best shot at rebounding of those four... at least as a starter. Sanchez had a bad year, but he did have an awfully high BABIP allowed (though some of that may have been to his fault) and HR/FB rate. He still managed to put up decent K/BB rates. Zimmermann's strikeout rates were never great and now it's been sub-6 over the last two seasons. And he's not exactly a ground ball pitcher. Liriano walks too many for my liking.
