If he gets back to his old form this is a great pickup for the Rangers.
three great years isn't a "sure HOFer"
thru age 27:I don't want to speak for @SU Nittany Tide , but I don't think he was saying that he was an HOF lock, but that his career was on that trajectory, and it's crazy how quickly he fell off the table.
My brother and I were saying the same thing yesterday.
Five years into his career he had a 137 ERA+, with 4 All-Star appearances and 2 Cy Young awards. He's been a low-70s ERA plus guy since. It's a remarkable fall from grace.
thru age 27:
69-41
2.81 ERA
155 starts
1028 IP
1127 k's
ERA+ 137
1.188 WHIP
2 CY's, 4 top 10 finishes overall
28-32:
41-48
4.94 ERA
115 starts
654 IP
609 k's
ERA+ 72
1.459 WHIP
lincecum will be used in long relief me thinks. 6th-7th inning guy.Who do you think will be more productive in 2018, Lincecum or Napoli?

i think he will do very well. his problem is endurance now, at this stage of his career.
napoli cant hit breaking balls anymore, and is on a minor league deal. hes slated to be a bench bat at best and part timer at first.
lincecum
he is your david ortiz, without the HOF talent.Although I think Lincecum is probably done, I agree. If Napoli has a spot on the Indians' 25-man roster, something has gone very wrong.

fair enough, though that 137 ERA+ is kind of bolstered by 2008-09.
