Dude seemed done, but maybe he'll get it back together. Braves are in the same boat with Kazmir.

If he gets back to his old form this is a great pickup for the Rangers. Didn't look that good when he last played so this is a wait and see thing for me.

Heard it was between the Rangers and Dodgers. Glad he made the correct choice.

He's probably not gonna make the team, but taking on his contract was necessary in order to get rid of Matt Kemp. Worth it too. I expect Brandon McCarthy to be in the rotation and Charlie Culberson to be a solid bench piece.

Crazy how that guy went from a sure hall of famer to run of the mill journeyman just overnight.

three great years isn't a "sure HOFer"

I don't want to speak for @SU Nittany Tide , but I don't think he was saying that he was an HOF lock, but that his career was on that trajectory, and it's crazy how quickly he fell off the table.

My brother and I were saying the same thing yesterday.

Five years into his career he had a 137 ERA+, with 4 All-Star appearances and 2 Cy Young awards. He's been a low-70s ERA plus guy since. It's a remarkable fall from grace.

Who do you think will be more productive in 2018, Lincecum or Napoli?

lincecum will be used in long relief me thinks. 6th-7th inning guy.

i think he will do very well. his problem is endurance now, at this stage of his career.

napoli cant hit breaking balls anymore, and is on a minor league deal. hes slated to be a bench bat at best and part timer at first.

lincecum

Although I think Lincecum is probably done, I agree. If Napoli has a spot on the Indians' 25-man roster, something has gone very wrong.

fair enough, though that 137 ERA+ is kind of bolstered by 2008-09.

Wait. Are you trying to tell me that a pitcher's best seasons improve his overall averages?!

Holy shit, Nava. That's brilliant. I've gotta write this stuff down.

Lincecum can be all right as a middle reliever or even a setup guy. There are 50 pitchers in MLB camps who can do that, so Timmy isn't anything special anymore. He does have some courage, which is a nice concept to sell to a front office. He does know the league, or at least the process. If he's learned to get people out, fine. But the Rangers aren't getting a unique pitcher now.
