Luckily I asked a question on the CBS........ site (I guess that is what it is called now) and they directed me to here. Glad to see most of the others have come here too.

Wheat, who was the big Howard Pass-The-Bourbon Schnellenberger fan on CBS. I can't remember who that was.

Wait, are you for real? A schnellenberger fan? Maybe if I saw him I bet I could recognize him. There were only a handful of fans in the stands.

shel liked Boo and Howie. In fact he didn't think either one was given enough time as the HC at OU.

Go figure....

As far as Howie goes, I'll always appreciate what he did at Louisville - we would not be what we are today if not for Schnelly....but what happened with him at OU...well, I'll defer to my Sooner brethren on that. Further - I always wondered just how much of his short tenure had to do with OC Gary Nord & his popularity in Norman ! ? ! ?

very little. I'll give Howie credit for what he did at Louisville and Miami, but he was totally out of his league in Norman.

I think the only year OU was ranked in the top 10 from 90-99 was when Schnellenberger was head coach. They had Thunder and Lightning and I'm not sure but I think they were ranked 6th or 8th at one time during that 95 season.

Didn't the players just like quit on the old man?:lame:

I think they lost respect for him when he almost killed one of his own players during two-a-days or whatever they are called in college. Didn't one of the players almost die of heat exaustion? He wanted some water but Howard told him no. Plus many players said Schnelly reaked of whiskey during practice. I would probably quit on him as well.

Ok, I remember now...he was a total hard azz! players hated his practice sessions.
I was at the OSU game and you could just see the players giving the game away.

He was marching up and down the field like he new it was over... a dead mans march.

Schnelly hated the Oklahoma tradition stuff.

That did him in more than anything else.

He tried to erase all the history and start a whole new Sooner era.

Us longhorns enjoyed watching him try to erase all the ties and memorabilia items linking OU to its past.

It would be like Texas hiring someone who wanted to remove any mention of DKR from its program.

I'd say it had a lot to do with this.

We embrace our history at Texas.

Oklahoma does as well.

Schnelly should have known better to try and erase it.

Although that part about DKR being an Okie has been airbrushed out of the Texas history books.
