The case for 154 games, Fenway's quest and MLB's next big thing

When this season started, the Red Sox had played 8,337 regular-season games at Fenway Park. They have since played nine home games in the 2018 season, pushing the total to 8,346. That means with 21 more home games, the Fenway site will have seen more regular-season games than any other spot on Earth. Barring further postponements, that milestone game will be played June 6, when Boston hosts Detroit in an night game..

PS i like the 154 games idea, but i still say keep 162. start later, make april/may double header heavy, before players get weary of the long season.

Honestly, once they set the record, it should never even come close to being broken. Nobody keeps their stadia longer than 20 years anymore

It’s about time they level that dump with TNT.

Not true. Progressive Field (originally Jacobs Field) opened in '94.

Well, there are some exceptions, as you point out...but so many teams are replacing their barns before they're even dusty because "it just isn't state-of-the-art any longer."

I'll be surprised if Jacobs is still functional in another 60 years

Gonna be tougher to do in Beantown. There's almost nowhere to put anything else, without ripping up a ton of other historical schtuff... or they move it to some far-flung burb where a lot of their fans can't get to it anymore

I hope that place isn't standing in 60 years. Hey @ least the Indians aren't the A's. Their stadium is a dump. I think it opened in the 60's.

Yeah, that Oakland POS is a big reason why they're constantly on the relocation radar. I'm not a fan of having municipal gubbmints pay for stadia, though. If you own the team, you've either got money for your ball park, or sell it

Oakland already lost it's football. It would be a shame if they lose their baseball team as well. I haven't heard talk of a stadium so if the A's would leave it wouldn't surprise me.

Yes, but 15 teams, half the league, have stadia that were built since 2000

All but 6 stadia have been built since 1989, when the Sky Dome/Rogers Center opened n Toronto.

Those 6 oldies are REALLY old:

Fenway - 1912
Wrigley - 1914
Dodgers - 1962
Angels - 1966
Oakland - 1966
Royals/Kauffman - 1973

There is one surviving ball park built in the 80's - Sky Dome - and one surviving park from the 70's - Kauffman

And then you have Atlanta, which has built TWO ballparks since the 90's.
