Clemson has at least one top 10 class. That's what Oklahoma had been lacking up till last class. Otherwise we'd been hanging 15-20. No bueno. You have to have at least one top 10 class on your team to win the natty. The data pretty strongly bears that out. Below is the 247 rankings for each school for the last 6 years from 2016.

Class Oklahoma Clemson
2016 19 11
2015. 14. 9
2014. 14. 17
2013. 16. 15
2012. 12. 15.
2011. 13. 10

At no point in the last six years before 2017 does Oklahoma have a top 10 class, they damn near fell to 20 in 2016, and only came within striking distance once in 2012. Clemson has two and damn near a third. I know you don't think there's a significant difference there, but there definitely is. Oklahoma recruited well enough to beat almost anybody out there, but not well enough to hang with the heavy weights. I know you don't see the difference, and you'd be very happy with those classes, but at a place like Oklahoma, Ohio state, Alabama, Florida state, etc... the standards are different.

That last Clemson class was rated 11, but it was bad ass. Just a small class, but a lot of fame changers.

Exactly. Oklahoma and Clemson had not been recruiting on the same level.

They are right with them though, what 1-2 players worth of difference? Yet 40-6 and 37-17 H2H? I don't buy that its conference for OU's shortcomings one bit, it didn't bother Clemson being in the ACC.

Conference doesn't help, but the shortcomings are mostly on the staff.

Mike Stoops is a serious problem.

In this very thread you've railed on the Texas offense. Well look at the last three years.......that offense LIT UP OU. Heard, Swoopes and Buechele all put up big numbers against that defense, and none of those guys were world beaters.

That's really OU's only flaw in terms of on the field play......the defense routinely gets beat at the worst times.

Well, Mike's got no excuses now. He's got his guys in his system. It's put up or shut up time.

Do you Sooners fans get it yet, or when he takes your top RB prospect this year too will the fog start to lift?

I guess Tom Herman knows where the best players are...all he has to do is look at who's committed to OU? :noidea:

That is a bit of Sooner revisionist history.
I personally was a huge Charlie Strong fan, but he was very debatable in the greater Texas fandom.

Strong was never labelled as a cant-miss homerun. He was probably the 7th or 8th choice in the process.
He was more of a "solid get" to save face after the hiring debacle that made Texas look stupid.

Many Texas boosters were even accused of racism for having their doubts about Strong.
Strong had some lukewarm support from day one. That probably doomed him from the beginning.

The support for Herman seems a lot more universal and closer to 100%. He was the top target all along.

thing about Herman is, everything he asks for he's getting. He has a plan and apparently gives no fucks about pissing anyone off or being told 'no'. And I'm not sure he's heard a 'no' yet.

Blah blah blah. We heard the same shit repeatedly about Strong not being afraid of Stopps.

well, I dont believe he was. Problem was, he should have been afraid of losing to Iowa State, Kansas, et al.

Good Lord almighty, I dont have a clue. What I do know is, it's a lot harder to win at Texas than casual onlookers think. Have no idea why it's that way, but it's always been that way. Not sure if it has to do with this city, the university or what. But it is a fact.

When Mack was sliding on out, and they were talking about who the new coach would be, I kept thinking the only person on the planet who could come here and guarantee a championship is Saban. It takes a control freak who's into every single phase of the program, working relentlessly on every aspect-from admin, big money donors, Texas Hi school coaches, the players, etc. As I believe Darrell Royal told Mack when he started here, you have to "put all the BB's back in the box". And that takes a friggin lot of work.

Herman so far looks like he at least understands that, but I will have to see it on the field to believe it.

They had a few issues.
1. Interior pass protection was bad, think blitz pick-up. WV really exploited that
2. 0 creativity. Throwing deep or throwing a hitch
3. Rarely used the middle of the field
4. They had a 2K yard rusher with 7 catches
5. TE and RBs combined to catch 15 passes (6%)
6. Despite having young talent at WR (better athletes than WR at that stage), Texas ran 0 reverses

Offense did very little to maximize talent.

almost never. I remember a TD in the OSU game I believe, over the middle to Beck #47. I jumped up and down yelling " we threw a pass to the middle of the field! It really happened, I saw it"

I keep trying to clue them in.......Herman is officially a PROBLEM

But y'all keep thinking this is nothing new. Just remember you were warned to pay attention......I'm not saying to be scared, I'm saying to take notice.....because he's staking his claim and shutting down the state for other programs right now. Be mindful of your own backyard, because he might take those kids too.
