TUSCALOOSA _ The University of Alabama had six players named to watch lists announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday morning.
A.J. McCarron was named to his first major watch list on Monday morning, the Maxwell Award.
Quarterback A.J. McCarron and running back Eddie Lacy were named for the Maxwell Award, which goes to college football’s outstanding player, while defensive lineman Jesse Williams, linebackers Nico Johnson and C.J. Mosley, and safety Robert Lester are all up for the Bednarik Award for best defensive player.
Alabama has never won either award.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck won the Maxwell last year, and LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu the Bednarik.
Semifinalists for both awards will be announced October 29, and the three finalists for each award will be unveiled November 19. The winners of the 2011 Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show held on December 6.
