What are you going to get the insurance policy on? Career ending injury? Those are actually very rare. The worry is he blows out a knee and is never quite the same. They don't have insurance policies for used to be in the 1% of the population fast and now is just fast.

I'm not an insurance expert, but yes career ending injuries can occur. Rare or not, when we're talking millions it's worth the money because of the risk that football can occur. A knee or leg injury is the most likely part to be insured.

Here is a question:

Is this kid worth a one and done for OU? Seems to me they would be better off investing in the future a developing a more long term QB.

This kid is not going to win you a national championship this year but if you get some serious playing time to another kid it could pay off big in year 2 or 3.

He was the #1 recruit in American coming out of high school so yeah it could pay off.

You can get career ending insurance. Career dampening insurance is what you really need, but that is not available.

Um...this shouldn't even be a question. Unless it's purely a life goal to play football professionally and you don't give two shits about baseball, the obvious choice is go to the MLB. Not only is the sport less taxing on the body but it's guaranteed money. Money that changes your life forever.

Best part of this is how ridiculous the NCAA is about sports. I find it funny you can be punished for accepting a ham sandwich from a booster, but retain your amateur status after taking 5 million from the MLB. It not new and plenty of Texas players have done it, but I find it ironic

I don't know what it's called, but athletes have bought insurance in the past.

This has crossed my mind.
We'll see how good he is.

Hope he's some kind of phenom but I'll temper that some.

I've seen him play and he didn't earn that title from what I saw.

Lol. Ok. You saw a true freshman play for a bad aggie team and you’ve decided he’s not worth playing?

There is a big gap between "not worth playing" and #1 recruit in America. He was definitely between the two extremes.

I was just thinking that. How is this different than the skier at Colorado who was ruled ineligible because he got money for being world champion in moguls.

I would sooner watch paint dry than baseball, but if given the opportunity I would trot out there with my glove 162 times a year and cash my checks.
