Let me go on record to say this is a fantastic deal if Brooks somehow coaxes Durant to move to DC.

While I think this is highly unlikely, I do respect that the Wizards are swinging for the fences here. Maybe they can sign Durant, then fire Brooks 30 games into the season so they can hire a good coach.

Hard to see Durant coming to Washington with the current roster. I feel like they would need to make another move first to convince him to even consider it.

Or maybe he stays in OKC for 1 more year and give the Wiz 1 more season to improve

That's 1 helluva an idea. They could replace Brooks W/ Mike D'Antoni!

I agree. That is why I was so frustrated they did not fire Whitman earlier, and that they tried to change their style of play. Had the Wizards come close to duplicating 2015, they would be among the front runners.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that thought. But well done finding a coach I would want less than Brooks. D'antoni and Mike Brown would head the list.

The funny thing is I couldn't decide between him or Brown.

Yeah, Brooks isn't impressive to me at all. I think there were better options out there, but Brooks was probably one of the hotter names out there for some reason.

Over the long haul, Head coaches are measured by their win % and not enough consideration is given to the talent they had often times. I don't think Brooks did much to make OKC better. In fact, I think he may have stunted their growth during the Harden days, but he gets acclaim because of the high win %.

I think the Nets had the most underrated hire so far

If Durant wanted to play for Brooks he would still be playing for Brooks.

It think this probably makes them a co-frontrunner.

I thought Golden State or Miami had the inside track.
I still am predicting the Heat ever so slightly.

But, he was a little kid going to that arena cheering for the Wizards and dreaming of playing for them.
Coming home like Lebron did with his old coach might be to tough to pass by...

He will retire from basketball and live in DC forever. That is his home and he really loves it there.

This reminds me of when the Heat drafted Shabazz Napier for LeBron James.
Shabazz and McBob and Danny Granger....how could LeBron have ever left after off-season acquisitions like that? :pound:

Brooks is at least credible. I think...

Bullshit, he ran from there first chance he got.

Are there any coaches left out there that you would actually want coaching your team?

Luke. That's about it at this point and he's not exactly proven. Might even be worth kicking the tires on Blatt for a team with a young roster. Although, he may be better served spending a couple of seasons as an assistant.

Sure.

My theory is that I would rather take a chance on somebody unproven tha hire a re-tread who has proven to be mediocre. Walton is a definite and JVG + Marc Jackson are both re-treads with more coaching ability IMO. After them, give me an assistant or a college coach over a guy like Brooks.

The ONLY redeeming virtue IMO is the link to Durant. That alone makes this hire worthwhile, because let's face it, the only way the Wizards will be relevant is if they sign a superstar FA. Durant is the only realistic chance for that. A good coach could get them back to the 2nd round of the playoffs, but this roster is not anywhere near good enough to contend as is.

If they fail to land Durant, my prediction is that Brooks won't last 3 full seasons in Washington.
