CSNNE is reporting that Bill Belichick and Dante Scarneccia have been meeting at Gillette. Word is that Bill has asked Dante to come out of retirement, come back as the Asst Head Coach and rebuild the offensive line.

It stands to reason that Dante is the only guy he can trust to keep the OL together. Sonce Scar has retired he's been consulting for the Patriots and doing the scouting. He may as well do it full time until BB retires.

I thought Scar wanted to come back? Reports were he got sick of sitting at home. Be nice to see him back, plus makes me think NE is going OT in the draft.

Word is that Scar wants to work with Cannon to bring his game back up to where it was three years ago. If he can do that, it will be a major reconstruction job. BB still apparently has a positive feeling for Cannon's ability. After seeing the way teams like the Broncos, Jets and Bills manhandled the Pats' offensive line this season, I wouldn't be wasting a lot of time on reclamation projects.

Tom Curran is reporting that this is pretty much a done deal. Scar was the OL coach for the last 15 years he was with the Patriots. Curran implied that Scar was at the Senior Bowl looking very carefully at Offensive Tackles.

NESN is reporting this morning (2/11/2016)that Dante Scarneccia has agreed to return as the Offensive Line Coach of the New England Patriots.

Several things will change immediately. (1) Offensive line players will have to live with 25 miles of Gillette (2) OL Players will each be given a workout routine and will be assessed and graded on progress (3) Conditioning will be number one during the time leading up to training camp.

Scar will evaluate everyone and you can bet he'll be telling them what they have to do to keep their jobs.

The guy who got the best night's sleep last night was Tom Brady.

That's great and all but why 25 miles? Is it just in case they want to have a practice "immediately" and players can show up? It makes sense to live close to Gillette but I don't see why he would have to make it mandatory

For the previous 15 years Scar coached the Ol, he made it mandatory that they live near Foxboro. Some guys didn't have to because they lived on farms and worked the farms or other reasons but they had to report to a doctor or local trainer weekly to allow Scar to keep tabs on their conditioning. During his time as the line coach, players rarely got injured because of the technique and the conditioning.

Something to watch for next year......watch closely to see how often a Patriot's lineman will be on his knees or even better, see how many times a Patriot OL watches a defensive player blow by him untouched. It's all in the feet and Scar is one of the best ever to work the feet.

Both Logan Mankins and Matt Light have spoken to the media this week in regards to what having Dante Scarneccia back as the OL coach means to the Patriots and to the players. Both said that no one on this today has ever played under Scar and that they all are in for a rude awakening. Mankins thinks that at least two of these guys will literally quit before training camp unless they really suck it up. Light said that OTAs will be their introduction to what Scar is expecting come camp. Light says this where the men are separated from the boys. The men accept the challenge and get their mail in the Patriots weight room because they won't have time or energy to go anywhere else. But both said that Scarneccia will insure that they are 100% in shape and ready to play between 60 and 80 offensive snaps every Sunday from August 1 until Feb. 10.

I expect Brady to break almost every Manning record this year......Yards and TDs.

Wishful thinking but, nope.

By the way......you shouldn't want that. It's been forever since the MVP has won the SB. It's a jinx.

Mankins predicts ‘rude awakening’ as Scarnecchia returns

" He’ll always have his guys prepared and if they’re not prepared he’ll find someone that is prepared. That’s the best thing about Dante. Those young guys have a rude awakening coming. They have never had anyone like him. They better be in shape because he’s going to test you.”

Scarnecchia Talks About His Return – The Patriots are hoping that the return of Dante Scarnecchia revitalizes a pretty stagnant group on the offensive line, and it sounds like the last couple of years off have helped revitalize Scarnecchia a bit as well.

New England’s offensive line coach said he enjoyed the time off away from the long hours involved, but he missed the game.

“I didn’t miss the routine,” Scarnecchia said via NESN. “I was reminded of the routine when I got back and the second day we were in a 14-hour personnel meeting. I said, ‘Oh, my God.’ But that’s all right.”

When it comes to the amount of preparation put in by the coaching staff for an organization that hasn’t won fewer than 10 games since 2002, there’s obviously some long hours and preparation. Scarnecchia had been a part of all of it over those years and obviously it took its toll.

There are long days in the office. There are long nights. After retiring he had spent the last couple of years traveling and enjoying time with his wife and his grandchildren. The NFL lifestyle obviously isn’t conducive to family life, and that’s been one of the things that he admitted was hard to let go of.

Fortunately after getting some time away he’s slowly getting back into the routine. After a couple years off, he’s ready to go.

“I love coaching football,” said Scarnecchia. “I didn’t retire because I didn’t like coaching football. I retired because I got tired of the lifestyle. Two years off, I’m OK.”

Steve Belichick Wants to Be Just Like His Dad – Seeing the ascent through the coaching ranks of Bill Belichick’s son Steve has been fun to watch, and listening to him talk about his new position on Monday was pretty interesting.

Considering his father is a future Hall of Fame coach, the expectations are obviously pretty high for someone who has started from the bottom and worked his way up, much like his dad did over his career. The young Belichick has since taken on the role of safeties coach and when you listen to how he got to where he is, the attitude obviously sounds very familiar.

“Just kept my mouth shut and learned. Everybody in this building is smarter than I am,” Steve Belichick told Patriots.com when discussing his experience.

“It’s been cool. Obviously I love my dad,” Belichick said. “He’s my role model. He’s my idol. I want to be just like him. I have since I knew what an idol was.”

It’s been great to see and the players seem to think highly of him, with Devin McCourty offering up praise following the promotion of the coach’s son.

“It’s been cool for me, just to see how much he’s developed and worked hard and it seems like he’s always here so he’s very excited to be the safety coach and have a good group coming,” McCourty told Mike Reiss of ESPN last month. “We have some leaders and guys that are definitely going to try and help him out as much as possible.”

For now he’s just working hard and trying to get better every day. He’s earned the respect of guys in the locker room and now it’s just a matter of continuing to get comfortable in his new role.

“I’m just gonna bring myself, bring my energy, bring my excitement, my hard work,” said Belichick. “I’m just excited to get in there. It’s so new. I just have to feel it all out.”

He’s come a long way and it would be cool to see him eventually grow into a head coach, which you’d think won’t happen for quite a few years. The good news is, it sounds like he’s certainly headed in the right direction.

Cooper in a make-or-break year – when the Patriots acquired Jonathan Cooper in the trade of Chandler Jones from the Cardinals, there was obviously some question about his future given his current contract situation.

On Monday Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Cooper’s future for now only involves the 2016 season, as the team reportedly won’t pick up his option and that will make the veteran a free agent after this season.

The decision obviously makes sense given the size of the option ($11 million) and the injury history he’s had during his short time in the league. He joins what should be a pretty competitive group heading into training camp, and it’s his chance to prove his worth playing for a team where he’s sure to get recognition if he can rise to the challenge.

The move puts the ball firmly in Cooper’s court as he’ll be playing 2016 with his future in mind, which should hopefully allow the Patriots to cash in on the former first round pick’s motivation for a future payday.
