I'm not exactly filled with awe at our rotation.

Something has to happen on Kyle Blanks soon. Is he a weapon, or not?

More opinions from Steve Adler of Friarhood on Gyorko's Opening Day status and what it means for his future with the Padres. I have to admit I'm shocked and confused by this move.

Padres Throw Away One Year of Gyorko Later, For One Month Now | Friarhood

I'm not an expert on the Padres by any means, but with the Headley injury, I thought Gyorko was going to be playing some 3b early on? What else do you have on the roster to fill in?

Being a fan of a smaller market team myself, I know there are folks that really pay attention to this "don't bring him up a month earlier then you need him" and "we don't want this guy to become super 2".....

While those are valid concerns, it still always makes me chuckle a bit......the really good players that this applies to will either extend early for a mutually nice deal, but potentially team friendly to secure the payroll for arbitration years and usually at least one free agent year or the team has no hope of retaining the player anyway and if smart are going to trade him before the last year of the contract to maximize their return.....

They had talked about Cody Ransom at 3rd. It's just hard to justify trading what Gyorko will be worth to the Padres in 2019 for the month of May in 2013. I see what they're saying but as you said, if this guys pans out to be what we're hoping, it's essentially a moot point.

If we don't sign an Edwin Jackson or Rick Porcello type starter this month, we'll know there's no hope of management letting us win this year.

Good, I can think of at least one pitcher who will probably be released soon.

And he's our ace...

For a team built on pitching and defense, we suck at both and our offense is going to be right down there with the Lastros if we don't get a bat and if Carlos Quentin doesn't stay healthy this year.

Headley's return could very well translate into wins with his bat and defense at 3rd. Easily our weakest link after starting pitching is the offensive and defensive hole at 3rd.

Man, I love Tyson Ross' mechanics. Very Verlander-ish.

It's time for Blanks to put up or shut up.

Solid, impressive win for the Pad Squad tonight. Bringing the brooms for Kershaw tomorrow night to the sellout crowd at Dodger.

The Padres are on fire. They're roughing Kershaw up (a little) and have the brooms out. Denorfia just went yard and is batting .390 and I'm sure he's going to get no respect.
