The Packers have indeed informed Sam Shields that he will be released, as he posted on his Instagram account moments ago. Shields spent most of last season on injured reserve and as of three weeks ago, he had not been cleared from the concussion protocol and was still having headaches.


Judging by the Instagram he's going to retire.

I really liked him. And yeah, not having our #1 corner hurt bad. Lot's of people can point the finger at Ted for letting Hayward go, but nobody knew Shields would be out the whole year. Time for Ted to spend some money.

The money they save on Shields would go nicely to a top corner FA. Of course, those rarely hit the open market. I suspect Ted will get grief for not making a move he has little chance to make.

We'll need to 3 third year guys to make a big jump.

The guy suffered 6 concussions in the past 3 seasons so this was not unexpected.

He played well for them. Taylor played well enough that we didnt miss him and we got to roll over a bunch of salary because of the move so I am ok.
