Sam Acho Released on Eve of Season

The Chicago Bears have released linebacker Sam Acho and elevated linebacker Lamin Barrow from the practice squad the team announced Saturday on the even of their season opener against the Green Bay Packers.

Acho, 26, has played four seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Lamin Barrow, 24, played in 16 games with the Denver Broncos last year after being drafted in the fifth round out of LSU. The Bears signed Barrow to their practice squad after he was waived by the Broncos earlier this month.

Acho had missed the last two preseason games due to an undisclosed illness and has not practiced with the team. Keep in mind veteran contracts (four or more accrued seasons) are no longer fully guaranteed after Week 1. 25% salary guarantee after Week 1. They could bring him back after his illness has cleared up.

Sucks for everyone. Good luck to him health wise. More playing time for others. 2nd guy I thought would start on the D that are no longer with the team. I guess having a group of average players works to our advantage as there will be no drop off talent wise.

I liked what I saw from him in preseason (obviously, its preseason) but he played with violence and just seemed to be around the ball, particularly regarding takeaways.

I have a feeling his attitude showed him the door, and that-that attitude stemmed from not being on the field, when for all intents and purposes....maybe he should've been.

I'm just glad he's back playing. If he can do what we saw in the preseason, could have a really big impact. Hope so. Kinda relieved to play against different team than the Packers. Just think they have our number.
