Roquan Smith not among Bears rookies reporting to training camp

Not to worry, this is not a sky-is-falling article or concern for that matter. If fact, as the story confirms, Roquan is not even in official holdout status yet. But it's news and I'm bored. The Bears historically have been one of the first, if not THE first team each year to have all their rookies under contract prior to training camp, so this is a bit out of the realm. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he's inked by the end of the week.

The usual delays are just in the guaranteed parts of the contract, signing bonuses, incentives, etc. The general numbers, such as base salary and shit, are pretty much a given and not really negotiable. That's why I highly doubt this will stretch much beyond this week or at the latest next week.

PFT reported that story and there's also allegations that they are dramatically twisting the language the Bears used in the contract.

So... who knows? I just know Dave Wannstedt is a fool (shocker) for calling him "selfish" over this. People need to chill the hell out. After his first double digit tackle performance -- we won't even remember this.

I won't pretend to say this isn't a bit annoying. I had fully expected Smith to be signed by now. But he will sign, so in the big pic, this is just a small blip on the radar. What commands my attention to a much greater degree is the health of the roster. We already have a player, Aaron Lynch, who has spent virtually his entire time as a Bear in the infirmary, and his biggest problem the past couple of seasons has been health. He was signed to play opposite Floyd. Not exactly the most encouraging of developments. Trevathan just returned to practice, but he too has had a history of not being on the field due to nagging injuries. This was my big concern with playing an extra preseason game, and why I'd be fine if we let nothing but 3rd, 4h, and 5th stringers take the field Thursday nite.
