I guess that means the Kings will put no. 4 up in the rafters. Personally I don't think he deserves that honor but it'll no doubt happen.

Kind of where I am at, Ox. I'm not taking into his 2001 trade and everything that led up to it, but rather his play when he was here, both times.

I don't feel he was ever a solid defender. He was fun to watch with the big hits and booming shot, but defensively he was always average to below average. He is only 1 of 3 defensemen to ever win the trophy with a negative plus/minus (-3. Randy Carlyle 1981 -16, Lidstrom 2010 -2) and I believe he won in 1998 because of his 23 goals more than his defensive ability.

Add in the contract disputes, the Kings always made him the highest paid defender in the NHL until the next guy set the bar, all the injuries he sustained yet the Kings stuck through him and he put them in a bad spot with his contract in 2001 and I don't believe his jersey should be hung up in Staples either but it's most likely going to happen.

I also seem to recall Hextall being way more involved as an AGM; I barely heard Blake's name all year long. Was it just me or am I right?

He may have the numbers to her into HOF but I honestly do not believe that his number should be retired. I still have abad taste after his fade issues.
I didn't even want for him to be the AGM for the Kings.
And speaking of numbers to be retired and HOF, what about Chrlie Simmer. He was one third of the TCL, how are his name and number not in the rafters?

Guys grow up, hockey is a business. Blake is one of the greatest players to wear a Kings uni and deserves to be in the hall.

I think the "grow up" comment should have been directed towards Bowlby in summer 2000 when he acted like a bitchboy and ripped the C off his jersey and walked out of the locker room.

You can love the guy - that's your right- but it's also our right to essentially tell him to go fuck a dead horse.

Rob Blake deserves it but he just looks bad compared to those other guys he's going in there with.

I'm not arguing that he should NOT be in the HOF. His numbers are good enough so he is in. I am arguing that the Kings should NOT give him the honor of retiring his number.
