Is Marshall-West Virginia still a rivalry?
I looked this one up. I didn't realize they've only played 12 times. West Virginia leads the series 12-0. They played every season between 2006-12, but it's been sporadic to say the least. They played in 1911, 1914-15, 1923, and 1997 as well. The average score is 43-13. Yikes. If either Pitt or Penn St couldn't be worked out I'd like to see the Thundering Herd and the Mountaineers begin a new tradition.

Regarding Penn St-West Virginia, they played every year from 1947-1992, 1992 being the last time they met. Penn St leads the all-time series 48-9-2. They're slated to meet again in 2023. Damn, that's too long. What actually helped put these rivalries on ice was, of course, conference involvement. In this case, the creation of The Big East. For whatever reason Penn St, if I'm not mistaken, turned down an offer to become a member. In 1993, they joined the Big-10, giving them 11 teams and the precursor to the names of these conferences not making numerical sense (i.e. the Big-10 at one point had 12 and the Big XII has 10; LOL). But, I digress.

In 1991, there were several independent teams. Had the Big East added a few more they would've been the Godfather of the Conference Championship game and not the SEC, which did so in 1992. Could you imagine a conference with Syracuse, Miami, VA Tech, Pitt, West VA, Rutgers, Temple, Boston College, Penn St, South Carolina, Florida St, and Louisville? That would be bad ass. I'm just sayin'.

UConn-UMass -- didn't realize they had one
UConn-UMass met every season between 1952-1999. When UConn moved up to D-IA in 2000 the series was stopped. They've only played once since then. UMass is now in D-IA (FBS). They've met 72 times. UMass leads 36-34-2. Their first meeting was in 1897, a 36-0 UMass win. In 2012, the most recent game, UConn won 37-0. I call that full circle. Now, it's time to create another circle.

LSU v. Notre Dame, a natural with so many Roman Catholics in South Louisiana. They actually played back in the 70's.

LSU v. USC, would be sweet! Time to settle 03 on the field. I can dream, can't I?

I'd love to see SC / LSU become an annual thing.

Not this Ag - tu was a traditional rival. I hated seeing that one die. But I hated playing the techies and do NOT care to see another TT\A&M game again. Only two B12 teams I miss playing are the sips and the pokes.

Oddly, I think the rivalry has grown by not playing. There is no game to settle things, so the argument is now just perpetual.

Paterno came to those schools with the idea of an eastern football conference and....the basketball centric teams wanted no part of it. Paterno was out in front on things and the BE was too greedy with their basketball money (which to their defense was really good for the time) and didn't dare tamper with their bird in the hand. Paterno had the right idea and also had a great plan for PSU to be the cornerstone of a solid conference in some great markets. I agree, that conference would have been at least on the level with any P5 group that's out there now.

What do you guys think of the LSU-Tulane..."rivalry?" I'm kinda glad it's done. It wasn't very competitive. Granted, some of these are not, but I don't get the sense that many are clamoring for a renewal. LSU leads 'The Battle of the Rag' 69-22-7. Tulane's last victory was 1982. LSU has won 18 straight meetings.

I'm also glad Tulsa-Arkansas doesn't play anymore. The last time that game was played in Tulsa, OK was 1952! The last 41 meetings have been in Fayetteville or Little Rock. Arkansas leads the series 54-15-3. I think the last time a negotiation was attempted Arkansas wanted either a 3-for-1 or 2-for-1. The Razorbacks would play in the city of Tulsa every now and then? Good lord, that's so beneath them. Continued mediocrity in the SEC. Arkansas can EAT IT.
