No.

Not that at all.

Laker fans who complain about the vetoe to this day conveniently leave out the very huge fact that the NBA owned the Hornets. Gilbert and the other owners would not have even complained had the same deal been made by any other franchise. The fact that the NBA owned the team was the problem here.

Like I said, they should have never owned the team in the first place.

If the league hires a GM for that team, why not let that GM do his job?

NBA is a joke. The draft lottery is also a joke. It's obvious before the season started it was going to be Cavs and Warriors in finals. You look at the teams that get the high picks. Cavs, lakers, celts, spurs all move up siluspiciously whenever they have a pick in the lotto

The Celtics didn't move up suspiciously @ all. They got that # 1 pick because they had the Nets pick from the KG/Peirce trade. Boston also has the Nets # 1 pick in '18.

Well,

When he makes a deal that crushes the resale value of the team, he proves himself incompetent. Stern had to step in. But again, the problem was that the NBA owned the team at all. Never should have been allowed to happen.

What was the end value of the trade they made with the Clippers? Still being bad enough to get the #1 pick? They got Eric Gordon (who hardly ever played for them), Aminu (role player), Chris Kaman (on the downside of his career) and the Wolves 2012 #1 (which was then wasted on Austin Rivers) and a couple of 2nd rounders.

The Lakers trade would've netted them Scola (about the same value as Kaman), Kevin Martin (ditto Gordon, but healthy and actually able to contribute) and Goran Dragic (a MUCH better player than Aminu and a very good replacement for CP3), along with a first rounder from Houston (from the Knicks, 6 picks later than the Minny pick they got from the Clippers).

The decision was either one of tanking intentions (to get Davis with their #1 pick) or to prevent the Lakers from making a deal to restructure their team on the fly. Which is one is proper "basketball reasons" for a league to claim? Neither.

Put yourself in the position of a potential new owner. What would you rather have?

The correct answer is a shot at Anthony Davis.

Sure, talk about rigged lotteries. The league-owned team with the third worst record (tied with the Cavs for 3rd/4th) wins the #1 pick. The Bobcats were the worst team by a country mile.

TT? Really?!?

Hard to compare drafts without comparing the pool of talent and draft positions. If the Lakers had three #1 picks they would probably have themselves a legit superstar talent.

Think about the last 3 years (and now this season). Lakers could've had Wiggins, Towns, Simmons and now Fultz/Ball. Is that a team that I could interest you in, lol?
