That's good news. I hope he continues to pitch the way he has this year. I think when he came to the Reds he saw that he had a chance to make a showing, and he has.

Fuckin' Ohlendorf gets a 6 run lead and tries to give it all back.
This guy is no longer an insult to the fans, he's breaking the back of the ball team.
How much longer does Price go with this clown?

The impact of Hamilton on an offense has never been understated.

I think the part of the equation that you never hear about is the stress and wearing down of the opposing pitcher caused by speed. Even after BH has left the base paths, the effects of the mental stress has taken a toll on the pitcher.

Even if they don't score while BH is on base, the pitcher has expended mental and physical energy dealing with the threat. Big difference for a pitcher that is having 1-2-3 innings as opposed to runners on and in scoring position.

Ohlendorf sucks, but so does Sampson. He looked terrible in that ninth inning, and was lucky he didn't give up a bunch of runs. These 2 can give up runs fast.

At least we won the game

Sampson is probably just not qualified to pitch in the bigs. He must have some of the tools. Though, so does Curt Partch.

I would guess Ohlendorf is tipping his pitches, at least early on.
He would be better just going to the stretch instead of that windup, which serves zero purpose.

The Dodgers had plenty of scoring opportunities all night long. I think they were 1-15 with RISP. So none of the pitchers I saw last night were impressive.

The weakest links in the current bullpen would have to be Ohlendorf and Sampson. Josh Smith would probably be next on the list.

I saw a stat the other day that said since the All Star break the Reds' bullpen has the lowest ERA and BA against.

I suppose I could look up the Reds ERA for the first 100 pitches of any game.
Subtracting Simon and the rest of the fill-ins like Daniel Wright, I would imagine the ERA is closely connected to a more stable 6-7-8th inning, alleging the team could get that far without being blown out. In other words, replacing Simon is key to the rotation. Scrapping Hoover fixes the rest of it. Sort of.

Josh Smith is showing some durability, and I think as a long man/spot starter, he might stick.
It will be curious to see how this staff is put together over the next 180 days.

Adleman is making a case for himself, but I don't think it is a very strong case. He's still plenty cheap.

Next the Pirates then on up the latter, look out Cubs! Really, I would like to see 70 wins, 17 out of 40 that's possible, But I doubt the Reds will continue at this pace either. But still possible.

Alleging Disco, Bailey and Straily, not Daley or Staley, can get 2 good starts out of 3, I think winning 18 games is possible. It appears Price is using Raisel and Lorenzen on alternate nights with the scrap heap, including Cingrani, on the other nights. It is a good chance for Blake Wood to audition himself.

Could they win 70? Sure.
But they could also reel off a 9 game losing streak and we'd be back to predicting 100 losses.

The number of wins is irrelevant to me. I wanted to see improvement as the season progressed and I'd have to say we've seen that. The bigger question is what is the foundation of the improvement?

The second half has seen multiple players excel offensively. Votto, Phillips, Hamilton, and Suarez are on nice runs. Duvall has struggled and RF has as well, but the overall offense has been solid.

The pitching has been better, especially the pen. Relievers that were projected SP have bolstered the bullpen and a couple nice surprises have bolstered the rotation. The biggest area of concern would have to be the struggles of Reed and Stephenson. Both were penciled in as top of the rotation guys and neither looks up to the billing. Someone or two is going to have to make big strides to fill that order.

Does the recent success change anyone's opinion on the current coaching staff and their future in Cincinnati?

For one thing, Josh Smith has some serious deficiencies in his game.

The recent play has bolstered Price's value since he can easily show that having no talent is worse than just playing bad.

I do think replacing Pico has had an obvious impact on the pitching staff, but from what I hear regularly, the improvement Hamilton has shown is more on Votto than the coaching staff.

All I can say about todays game is, ouch!!!! That's what I get for being optimistic. Playing 2 with the Rangers and going out to the west coast for a 3rd time, They could easily lose 9 in a row,

On anther note, Maybe they should move Holt to the bullpen....lol.

A year or so ago when the LaLa's were in Cincy, the Doggies announcers were whining to beat hell about the cheap home runs in GABP. Funny how they just moved the fences in when Reds hitters come to the plate..

Another nice outing from Straily.

Peraza has really been on a nice roll since the callup.

Votto continues his 2nd half destruction of NL league pitching.
