Ray Knight ... yes ... terrible manager, not a bad ballplayer.

A hint on who wore No. 14: Obviously an infielder because in those days, the Reds numbering system said infielders wore numbers 10-19. Another clue: He is also a longtime manager/bench coach, in recent years in the Boston and Yankees systems.

I looked it up and clarified which of the 2 players actually wore the number last.

I'd forgotten Knight. Did Narron play for the Reds ?

Bill Plummer,Pat Corrales and Lloyd McClendon were the catchers I was thinking of.

Hal McRae also managed. I'm sure I've forgotten others. Corky may manage one day.

Sideline trivia

I had to look this one up. Who wore No. 14 before Pete Rose got it?
Actually, 2 players are listed.

Well, now that the question is closed, I found something in my research. First, that Curt Flood had 2 cups of coffee with the Reds as a teenager in the late 1950's.

And, that he wore # 14.

Flood was part of the McClymonds connection that dated all the way back to Lombardi.
Quite a group of big-leaguers from that school in Oakland.

Recalling the Frank Robinson years, and the game I remember, being 10 years old.
We got seats almost directly behind home plate for this one. I don't recall how we got the tickets but I think my uncle knew somebody who knew somebody who had the seats.

I didn't remember who pitched (wow, Koufax!) but I do recall Robby getting a home run that hit the top of the CF wall and hopped along, finally went over the fence.
20,000 at Crosley was a monster crowd.
Brooks got his 13th in a row.

This was an amazing year for NL baseball.

As this trivia thread died, let me just add this here as a did you know item.

It was on this date back in 1967 that, in the ninth inning of a Reds’ 3-2 loss to Philadelphia at Crosley Field, Chico Ruiz becomes the only major leaguer ever to pinch-hit for Johnny Bench. The 28-year old Cuban infielder, with a runner on second, flies out to left field standing in for the future Hall of Famer, who goes 0-for-3 in his first big league game.
