not sure how I feel. Love Drew and he was pretty good last year, but I think Bogaerts is the future at SS and I'm not ready to give up on Middlebrooks just yet. Even if he flops, they have Cecchini in AAA. So I wouldn't like the idea of moving Bogaerts over. Though if Drew's willing to move over to 3B, that's be nice.

This solves NOTHING! I repeat NOTHING! $10 million dollars for a guy who can barely hit higher than Ross and Boagarts right now. His defense is pretty good but not $10 million worth for what 130 or so games. It is very telling that no teams (I know the draft pick was involved) really even sniffed at this guy and the red sox snatched him up so quickly means they are panicking. He isn't going to 3rd and this will only mess up Xander even more!

I just wanted a one year rental. Was not going to happen that way. With Avilla and Castellanos below.240. Already have two subpar regulars in the lineup. Romine is batting .179 with decent defense and Worth middle of the road on both.

Iggy will be back next year. With the early part of the season looking special. Not panicking just know that the 7,8,9 will rear it's ugly head come fall.

Avila has a .365 OBP and .417 SLG% at a position that isn't known for offense. Though, oddly enough, Avila actually has a higher BABIP this year (.370) than he did in 2011 (.366). And he batted .295/.389/.506 that year, hitting like an all-star 1B.

I stick with basic stats Nava. That and the eye test. I can give two shits what a formula says. When you sit and watch guys get on base when no one is on or take walks that helps OBP. Great, then I watch the same guy wiff or not do shit late in games when it matters. ( sure there are 4 stats for this also.)

I am not on the kill Avila train. The guy calls great games. I accept his batting for swap of what he does for the pitching staff. However with Romine going 0-4 4K's 0-3 2K's his defense is not strong enough IMO to cover that up. The one weakness Tigers have is the 789 guys having any type of consistency. That will show up later this year late in games.

The fact Avila has a higher #%)R$* than he did in 2011 shows to me a flaw in someones formula. That is why I stick to basic stats.

But BA isn't a formula?

Actually anything with math applied is in fact a formula....

Even better if the HR Avila just hit in the 13th holds up, it will be some good crowe for dinner tonight.
