I am just torn on the whole idea of giving out a stipends to (certain?) student athletes. That would just open up the floodgates to violations/cheating and the "Rich getting richer" mentality. This would ruin the sport. I think the splitting of the big conferences though...it is just a matter of time. When it happens, I think the NCAA still needs to govern and police these schools/conferences.

I'm against paying players. You are paying them with the opportunity to get a free education. If they decide they don't want to use that opportunity then it is their fault. You are also giving them a platform to get to the next level. These kids are receiving an education worth 50-200k depending on the school and where they are from.

agreed.

at best, it's a free education. at worst, it's an unpaid internship for your NFL resume.

I remain against any sort of payment above that required to get a degree. This topic has been well addressed among this group. Everything from the hard and fast benefits provided to the valuable access and opportunities the athletes receive has been hashed out. Perhaps I've put a higher monetary value than others, but the fact remains there is significant value to the athlete. Simply put, the value student athletes receive at Tech and it's peers is competitive as evidenced by their willful participation.

Is there a centralized site keeping track of when teams are jumping to their new conferences?

We got Pitt and Cuse now, is Louisville coming in next year or 2015? And have the other conference made more moves since last summer?

I think players should be paid for on the field achievements...for example, a defensive player should get a few hundred bucks every time they make the opposing team's training staff come onto the field...extra bonus if you draw out the cart or ambulance.

Louisville comes in next year (2014). I'm not aware of a centralized site, but check the wikipedia pages for each conference.

Eck...

Actual research? Maybe we've found an under-serviced market? I don't want to go through like 15 wiki pages to see what the GD'ed "American America Association of Conferences" or the Sun Belt are up to. I want one page... with cool graphics and maybe a timeline... and sweedish fish.

I have looked at this sight several times. It is a little bit out of date in some areas...but all in all a good site.

Which ACC rivalries are king? - ACC Blog - ESPN

Talking about the Clemson / VT "rivalry":

the new ACC scheduling format has these squads slated for matchups in just 2017 and 2024,

Are you fucking kidding? We're playing Clemson twice in the next 18 years (assuming we play every 7 years now I guess). That's a fucking joke. Can we go back to a 10 team conference and just play every damn team in the conference every year?

Not shocking as the ACC is run by a bunch of retards.

But hey, at least we get BC every year :suds:

Apparently we're joining the Big Ten if I check out future schedules. Finally playing Penn State is long overdue and very cool.

I love that but does anyone else think zero is guaranteed for schedules 5 years from now, let alone 15 with the way things are changing?

that's a given...seems its been that way for some time, since we just got blown off by Wisc for the second time
