They were 18th in the country in yards per play last year, which is why they were 11th in offensive efficiency. And that takes into account the game and a half Love missed and him playing the entire game against Washington State not healthy. That's why i said he needs to be healthy for them to achieve that.
The full game he missed was against arguably the worst team in the FBS last year, that's a shit excuse for a "top 10 offense".

#1 Oklahoma = That's a LOT of faith right there.
#2 West Virginia = Still in the shadow of Oklahoma

Yes, I know. I realize there is an inverse relationship between offenses and defenses where in the Big12 the offenses are an 8 and the defenses are a 2 (on average) while in the Big10 it’s closer to a 3.5 on the offenses and a 6.5 on the defenses.

And even taking that into account they were still 11th in efficiency and 18th in YPP. And 5 teams ahead were G5 teams.

The point of an offense is to score points. If you are 38th in the nation in points scored, you're not a top 10 offense. If Love goes down, this is a bottom 40 offense. No chance they belong on this list as an entirely 1-dimensional offense, let alone as high on the list as they are.

Obviously it's to score points. Teams go about that differently. I'm not going to penalize a team because they play a specific offense, especially when they execute that offense very well. And opposition also plays into it.

But it’s not like it is a possession offense because they are losing the ToP battle. Michigan State runs a possession offense which is why we don’t score many points or pick up a lot of yards but we destroy the ToP.

I'm not talking about penalizing them. I'm talking about appropriately ranking them and not wildly overrating them like this article did. If they're an efficient offense that scores an OK amount of points, fine. Maybe they're top 25. However, when they're nowhere near top 10 in the main metric an offense is supposed to strive for, they're not a top 10 offense.

Michigan State also had a much better defense last year than Stanford did. It helps your offense when your defense can get the other team off the field. Stanford did that despite having a very mediocre defense.

3 probably is a little higher than I'd have them, but with what they bring back compared to how they performed last year, being in the top 10 definitely isn't a stretch.

Based on efficiency alone, not anything that shows on the scoreboard

If you only want to look at PPG that's totally fine with me. If you want to call offenses like UL-Monroe, North Texas, Western Michigan and Arkansas State better than Stanford last year that's fine, I'd disagree, but it's your opinion.

Problem is top ten offenses actually put points on the board. Stanford wasn’t too 30 in points per game and were 75th in yards per game. They could be a good offense but they aren’t top 10 by any stretch of the imagination. And again, possession offense actually control the ball, their offense does not. They were below 50% in ToP.

They were 75th in YPG, but 18th in YPP, suggesting that the defense let them down big time by not being able to get off the field. And Stanford wasn't a good defense last year. They are the definition of a ball control offense. I honestly can't remember the last time they did hurry up, outside of needing to/last 2 minutes.

So 18th in YPP is the highest ranking of any offensive metric you have, yet they're a top 10 offense. What else went into them being the 11th "most efficient" last year?

Haven't seen it since Mettenberg crawled off the field at Bama like a 3rd world child stricken with polio
That’s what happens when you are poaching QB’s from Purdue.
