Series Thread: Rangers @ Mariners 9/19 - 9/21

Mariners begin their second to last home series of the year against the Texas Rangers.

Mariners currently sitting at 74-76 and on a 3 game losing streak after being swept by the Astros. In true 2017 Mariner fashion this current losing streak is coming immediately after a 3 game winning streak. Mariners currently 4 games back of the AL wildcard.

At this point it would take quite a miraculous run by the Mariners, along with some luck, in these final 12 games. Mariners need the Twins to lose, a lot. And the Angels to either lose, stay where they're at then get swept by the Mariners in the final series of the year.

The chances of the Mariners getting that 2nd wildcard are very slim, but still possible. Much of the team's fate is controlled by how the Twins and Angels play over the remainder of the season, but the team also need to win. A lot. In order to tie the Twins, the Mariners would need to go 10-2 if the Twins go 6-6.

Mathematically possible, probabilistically unlikely.

9/19: Mike Leake (4.01 ERA) v. Martin Perez (4.82 ERA)
9/20: Felix Hernandez (4.19 ERA) v. Andrew Cashner (3.40 ERA)
9/21: James Paxton (2.98 ERA) v. Cole Hamels (3.96 ERA)

Its to the point in the "summer fling" where you know its not going to last, your mind has already moved on, the physical act is all that remains even though the lust has already faded. You are already prepared for the new and exciting possibilities that lie ahead.

After this series, I'll likely just create one thread for all the remaining games. With the season dwindling down and hope about as bright as the sun coming through the wildfire smog, everyone (myself included) seems to be losing interest in the team. No reason to clog the board up with a bunch of series threads.

Felix will look back at his career one day and said he should've left the M's for a contender. His whole entire career is wasted here and it's more clear than ever he's at the tail end.

And we've got Cleveland after this. This last homestand will be all for nothing, that's for sure. I hope there are more empty seats than there were for the Chargers last week!

I just watched a couple innings last night but it told me everything. I see one side Beltre on one leg going first to third on a hit. On the other side I see our franchise 2nd baseman not lay out for blooper and our franchise third baseman boot 2 balls because he didn’t take the time to get positioned right. They can say they care but as an outsider you can’t tell most nights. Having a milk toast manager doesn’t help

With not much reason to keep up with the games anymore, I find it unlikely that these series threads will generate much conversation.

If someone would like to continue posting them for the remaining series, they're welcome to. I just don't figure it would generate too much interest at this point.

Agreed... He should a left the M's long ago.. For Felix to never sniff the playoffs is almost a crime, were all gonna get cheated not seeing how he would a stepped up in the post season... I get the feeling he would a studded out big time, but we'll never know...
