I truly understand they didn't want a retread like Fisher....but c'mon. They could gave gotten somebody a little more qualified.

A barely 30-something yo head coach might work in college......but the NFL? I have my doubts about this hire.....

He came HIGHLY recommended by big time NFL people. He's supposedly one of(if not THE)brightest young coach in the NFL...Who cares that he's only 30/31? He has Wade Phillips(one of the most respected coaches in the NFL) there to fall back on when he needs advice/help... Goff, Gurley and other key players of ours seem VERY happy with the hire, good enough start for me...

A barely 30-something
I believe Mike Tomlin was barely 34, and he's been there in Pittsburgh for 10 years now, and yet again is in the playoffs.

There was a lot made of Mike coming in so young as the HC in Pitt, and here he is with 2 SB rings in 10 years at only 44 years of age with so many more years to lead the team ahead of him.

If we put someone like a Coughlin or a Phillips, age would be a factor.

So to me, when it comes to age, youth is not as big a factor as leadership, vision and execution.

I have no problem with this, he's something fresh and new, it might work, might not? Any coaching hire is either a hit or miss, even if you bring in a proven commodity. Teams are constantly hiring coaches with a resume, but more times than not I think they fail. Some coaches also stick around for reasons no one understands (Fisher)
We've had 4 misses on our last 4 coaches, some had experience, some didn't, evidently didn't matter, known of them knew what they were doing?

You guys are awfully optimistic for being jaded Rams fans.

I do like them bringing in Phillips as the DC. Now, if he can just bring in Turner as the OC the kid will be surrounded by good coaches.

Speaking of jaded, I would still like to see a few of you answer my question before @DJ came in here with his half dozen consecutive posts.

Did anyone else have flashbacks to Spags four pillar philosophy when McVay was talking 'character' & 'culture'?

I just hope he doesn't go overboard like Spags did.

Spagnuolo's four pillars: faith, character, core values, team first

Why would we need Norv Turner? McVay is an offensive whiz-kid and plans to call the plays. What would Turner be there for?

This is why I'm thinking Wes Phillips could be a good fit at OC. Still not real comfortable with the nepotism thing that is rampant in the NFL.

Kind of more interested in who will be named our OL coach, to be honest, for exactly the reason you've mentioned LTR.

Because HC's delegate a lot of responsibilities.....More to coaching than just being the OC.

A lot of former OC's and DC's that promote to HC continue to take on either the Offensive or Defensive play calling, respective to their former position of course, until they get comfortable with who they have slotted in those spots.

Getting a guy to understand what you are looking for is a huge battle especially when you bring in a Norv Turner type.

We just got a taste of Norv's unwillingness to adapt to the HC in Minnesota, so why do you think that would work with such a young HC in LA?

Of course, but that's why he would likely go with someone who has been working under him for the past year or more who knows his system and how he likes to run it. Not a guy like Turner who would want completely control over the offense, basically negating our new head coaches greatest strength...

Its worth a shot I guess.... can't do any worse than Fisher. He was able to do wonders for Krik Cousins; maybe he can do the same for Goff.

I don't care if he is 18 or 90, if helps us win, that is all that matters.

I wasn't worth mentioning, but I will answer your question. No! Lol!

No offense bro! I was adding the names of the Rams fans who were posting on this thread, and got called away, so I just left it at that.

There were also a few others I missed too.

Apparently, McVay has some interest in Aaron Kromer (Bills OL coach, former Saints assistant and Bears OC) as OC.

The guy has been a successful OC in the NFL for 3 years, after having been a TE coach for 4 years prior to that. What difference does it make if that stretch started when he was 24 or 34? 7 years working on an NFL defense, including 3 as OC, trumps any college coaching experience he could've earned in his 20's to work his way up the ladder. He skipped that and went straight to the NFL.

Is Anthony Lynn more qualified, just because he's older? He only has less than 1 season as OC. How about Kyle Shanahan, who was McVay's predecessor and has bounced around to 4 different NFL teams as OC in eight years? Is that experience good or bad, including a year with the Browns? McDaniels we all know struggled in his last attempt to leave the Patriots.

McDaniels is probably going to stay with the Patriots especially if they make it to the superbowl this year. Same for Shanahan with the Falcons. Both may be also in contention for the 49ers job as it is the only HC vacancy left.
