Good. Let Barwin walk and fill the spot with a younger faster version. Phillips could also offer him a coaching position. If I were Phillips, I'd get a hold of Kevin Greene and see what he is up to these days and if available, would he be interested in a coaching position on Phillips staff.

The Rams have 3 big questions to answer this off-season.

1) how much to pay Donald?

He's the best DL in the league not named Watt and they need to pay him. But how much? You know he wants more than what Suh got, but where has that got Miami when a huge chuck of your cap is taken up by a DT? Nowhere! I know he deserves to be the highest paid, but if this guy is a team player, he should take less so the team can keep more of the core players that also need to be signed. It would be great if he would sign for 15-16M, but I'm guessing that won't be the case

2) do they keep TJ or not?

His play dropped this season and isn't worth what he got paid. Nor is he worth close to that. If they can't get him to sign for 10M or less, they should let him walk. They can use that money for others like NRC.

3) what to do about Watkins?

Sure, they have a 2nd round pick invested in the guy, but that can't cloud their judgment when it comes to signing him. I know he does a lot of things that DON'T show up in stats ( drawing double teams, blocking, etc ), but his numbers were pedestrian except for the TD's. He was invisible in several games this season and quit on routes more often than you should see in a teams #1 WR. Woods was clearly the #1 guy this year and he is only set to make 8M next season ( remember when everyone was saying the Rams overpaid for him? ). Watkins shouldn't be paid more than Woods. They should sign Watkins to a similar deal like Woods'. If not, they should let him walk because they have Thomas and Reynolds waiting in the wings.

What do you guys think they should do about these guys?

1. 20 million per year is my guess.

Looks like Rob Lowe is a fellow Rams Fan. His town was wiped out by fire and now mud.

Devastating mudslides. Loss of life. Very sad.:L

Was about to post this and I don't like it... Probably 16+ mil for Watkins? Seems way much... Means Tavon is gone(as he 100% should be).... Also seems like Donald being re-signed will take up almost half of the cap room so Tavon and (likely)Barron has to go(no biggie to me) to open more space... The good thing??? people will finally want to play for us and not demand a kings ransom to play with us...

Expected franchise tag cost

Cornerback $15,212,000
Defensive End $17,414,000
Defensive Tackle $14,159,000
Linebacker $15,197,000
Offensive Line $14,299,000
Punter/Kicker $5,017,000
Quarterback $23,555,000
Running Back $12,054,000
Safety $11,465,000
Tight End $10,001,000
Wide Receiver $16,235,000

So after Watkins gets his we will be down to 30 million, that is not counting any cuts or renegotiations. And just because he is presumed to get the franchise tag doesn't mean we can not negotiate a new contract.

Cutting Tavon saves us $3 million
Quinn costs 12.3 million, there is not way he is coming back at that price. I think they straight cut him, giving us another 11 million in cap space.

Giving us 44 million, with Donald costing around 20 million leaving us at 24 to sort it out.

Many articles are intimating the Rams want to keep as many people as possoble and ALR's post above outlines the big three. Trumaine may stay and the likelihood is good. Barwin is gone and the little turd is finally flushed. I see us talking Quinn to returning and they finally get a deal done for Donald. Sammy's potential deal is what it is. I'll take our WR corp as it stands sans the little turd of course.

Transition tag has been mentioned for Watkins, which would be a 20% raise to $6M. Can't see that getting it done, but it guarantees the right to match any offer (but no compensation if they don't match). Will anyone really offer $16M? Rams could save some cap space this way...

To think we had both of those QBs that are the starters for the NFC Championship game is nauseating at best. Keenum is suddenly a super star (so all the pundits are now claiming) under his Vikings HC which means the Drama Queen was just a complete joke of a coach!
