Oakland Raiders file Las Vegas relocation paperwork

If this is approved I'm curious how Oakland fans feel about the team playing in Oakland for 2 years. I know if the Chargers tried to play here in SD the next 2 years the fans would probably block their entrance to the stadium.

Chargers and Raiders are two completely different situations.

San Diego had a solid proposal for a stadium and Spanos had no interest - his only interest was increasing the value of his franchise.

Oakland is a city teetering on bankruptcy and simply cannot commit public money to get it done.

Both owners cannot self finance because their football teams represent the vast majority of their net worth.

Both will somehow pay the $650,000,000 relocation fee however.

A great portion of the fanbase is national as is and/or in SoCal. I doubt there will be much grumbling outside of some of the most staunch Oaklanders. Different fanbase from say the Chargers which is mostly just SD with some fans being in LA.

Yep. I remember when the Raiders moved to Oakland from LA. I don't think that any of their fans stopped rooting for the Raiders, and many of them made the commute to Oakland for games & actually enjoyed the experience.

Good point. They're definitely a more regional fanbase, while 99% of Charger fans were in San Diego County.

I bet when the Raiders go to Vegas they will be the most popular team in LA.

Can't wait baby! Vegas is my second home and is a great 2nd option for me since we couldn't get them to LA.

My girl hates when I go to Vegas, but now I have a legitimate excuse.

Owners want the public to fund the lionshare of new stadiums and with the exception of SF/Santa Clara, Cali people have said no.

I have learned SD was more willing than it appears. Seems like they had the support for public money to build in the 'burbs, but the owner wanted the more expensive location downtown. The 'burbs location option was never presented to vote on.

Does suck for SD and I'm hearing the money was just not in OAK.

IMO, part of becoming an owner in the NFL, you should have the cash reserves to fund at least 50% of a new stadium if the city your team is in has an older venue that might need replacing.

The problem is that these teams play in antiquated stadiums that lack profitability.
