It is clear that th Big Ten will be expanding and a few of the dominos have fallen, regardles sof what certain conferences are saying. I have a good firend who is very much on the inside on this issue, and he walked me through what he figured would happen in the next decade. Here is a brief summary:
The most likely scenario is Nebraska, Missouri, Pitt, ND and Rutgers. Rutgers, Pitt and Nebraska have all greed to a deal in principle.
As for the dominos, it depends on how the Pac 10 reacts. If they take pieces from the Big 12 (or what s left of it) there will be a bidding war between them and the SEC over the Texas/Oklahoma/Texas A&M dynamic. The SEC will likely win that war and add in those three teams and (get this) West Virginia, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State :-0. Bu wait, you may ask, what does this do to the SEC., They will have 18 teams now. Not so fast m friend. Look for the SEC to jettison South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The ACC will eat up South Carolina, Syracuse, UCONN and either USF or Vandy, most likely USF.
The Pac Ten will add Kansas, K State, Colorado, BSU, Utah and BYU.
TCU will be left out, as will Baylor, Colorado State and Vanderbilt.
It may sound outlandish, but it is pretty damn dead on. I have a really good friend on the inside of this stuff....
One other note about the Pac Ten additions. There will be discussions of BSU versus TCU. Depending on where Texas and Texas A&M end up (Pac 10 or SEC), BSU could be the team left out, and not TCU.
Look for four 16 team conferences who tell the NCAA to take a hike and set up their own trophy and championship series with virtually the entire collection of power teams being involved.
So, I would like to see some predicitions for what will be the conferences in 202.
