great news for Irish they came in at 5. thisbis awesome news. Like most thought win out and we are in. Lets go Irish. im so fired up. Polls see that the Irish has had a tough schedule and our 1 loss was a heart breaker and actually isnt a big negative.

Lets go Irish.

If one of the Big12 unbeatens runs the table, they will jump us. We need Stanford to look good and now I think we need Clemson to win out (or lose in the ACC championship game).

Yes they would but LSU and Alabama play one another which would probably drop the loser below Notre Dame.

My fear is that we end up with: Clemson, undefeated Big 10 winner, LSU or Bama, undefeated Big 12 winner. We need either a one loss Big12 champ (might happen), an Ole Miss SEC champ (won't happen), a one loss Big 10 champ (might happen), and we still need to win out, hopefully over a one loss Stanford team.

Well, I for one am totally surprised at coming in at #5 ... never thought we'd be that high at this point. Hope they didn't curse us.

Bama at #4 :rolleyes2:

Very good bet on that one ... I'm bankin on it. :suds:

All of this is for naught, if we screw just one game up.

Disregarding ND, this poll is laughable. SEC got almost all the love. 6 SEC teams all moved up from AP a total of 16 spots. ACC got some love too with Clemson, FSU and ND* all moving up a total of 6 spots. Committee absolutely hates Big 12 moving all four in the poll down a total of ten spots. No love for BIG 10 with MSU, Michigan, Ohio State all dropping although Iowa moved up 1 and Northwestern made a big move up. PAC 12 Stanford and Oregon also moved down. Couldn't they at least keep one SEC team in the same or lower position than the AP poll. Bullshit.

It's clear the committee is putting a lot of stock into strength of schedule. And frankly, the Big12 unbeaten teams have played weak schedules.

People talked about TCU and Baylor the same way last year. Baylor and TCU were 5 and 6 respectively in the last poll before the playoffs. Baylor went on to lose to Mich. State 42-41 in the Cotton Bowl. TCU kicked the shit out of Ole Miss (9) 42-3 in the Peach Bowl. #1 Bama lost to OSU. The other SEC top 10 team in this rigged poll was Miss. State (7) and they lost their bowl game to GT . So all the love that went to the SEC last year was undeserved, the 3 SEC teams in the top 10 all lost their next game, But the BIG 12 represented admirably. Also, the 2 BIG 10 teams in the top 10 did very well in their bowl games, especially Ohio State.

I was just as surprised we came in at #5 in the initial poll. That's saying something. Whether it be SOS or the performance of the team after so many key injuries that you all keep making me remember. I'm a bit in shock. I expected maybe 8th or 7th.

Baylor is questionable with the injury to their QB, not to mention their SOS, but they also have TCU and OU to play yet. I'd like to see OSU get their clock cleaned but we may see an undefeated Big10 out of the conference.

Win out and I think we have a great shot of getting in. But the boys can't let this be the focus, Pitt must be the focus.

It appears the committee looks at performance, SOS, championships, head to head performance and luckiness.

I was pleasantly surprised coming in at number 5. Squeaking by teams must not be too much of an issue. The schedule does speak for itself. ND's too toughest games were on the road. ND probably wins at Clemson if they didn't play in a hurricane. ND dismantled a Texas team what was able to beat a good Oklahoma team. ND beat a Georgia Tech team that beat Florida State. ND beat a USC team that can probably beat anyone in the country if they are on their A game. (they destroyed number 3 ranked Utah). Pitt is no cupcake either. They were ranked in the top 25 and just lost to a division leading UNC team. Keep winning games and lets have an end of the year showdown with a 1 loss Stanford team for the right to be in the final 4.

lucky ... you have a good sense of humor:pound:I don't think I ever recall such a incredible clash of opinions over the semantics of lucky. It's a football, sometimes it actually bounces your way, that's not a bad thing. It's like beauty, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

I think the committee doesn't like that they have no championship game. This will hurt them. I heard from someone is that that's why ND is ahead of them because of SOS and that in the last game of the year ND will leave a nice impression to end the year if they beat Stanford. Couple College football Analysis have mention if ND wins out there is no way they knock them out. If ND wins this week they are in the top 4 (bama vs LSU this week).

Exactly the Big 12 have played nobody out of conference at least the undefeated teams haven't with TCU's win over Minnesota.
