yep. Kingman and Gorman Thomas would be legends today.
I don't know. The stat nerds might look at some other things like WAR and OBP and realize those guys were kind of mediocre players overall. Then again, no one had to teach Kingman about "Launch Angle"

Superstud til he was 25.

Lefty power arms like his don't come around often. And when his arm went south, he still pitched another 15 years.

Dude was Top Ten in the CYA 3 times by the time he was 23.

Not sure how many 21 year olds have led the league in Ks, but it cant be many.

I haven’t read this whole thing, but J.R. Richard comes to mind, even if he had a long way to go even before his injury.

Chase Utley obviously (though I think he should still get in).

Travis Hafner maybe (he was a really underrated hitter).

JR had the promise and the talent for sure, really should have been something special for longer.

Wally Pipp?
He played well for a couple years for the Reds after Lou took his job.

He was already on the backside of his career. But people forget he led the league in round trippers back to back seasons before Babe got there.

Jim Edmonds - had a pretty borderline HOF career (probably deserved better than 2.5% of the HOF voting), but had just 7 seasons of 140+ games, and fell short of milestones that would've helped his case.

Get the fuck outta here with that shit....is the monster also the reason he hit a mere .277 with a sub .800 OPS on the road....does that look HOF worthy to you for a corner OF?

If he was as good as you thought he was, then he should've been able to hit at a good pace on the road....but he didn't, right?

What's next, claiming that Jason Varitek could've hit 300 homers if it weren't for Fenway?

You're an idiot.

[QUOTE
As for 78, Guidry won the Cy Young (MVP for pitchers) and played every 4 or 5 days. Rice played all 163 (Bucky fucking Dent, yeah, I'm still bitter too :mad2:) and was first in hits, triples, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging%, OBP, and a half dozen other stats that I don't put a lot of stock in. His BA was 3rd highest in the league and he had the 2nd most outfield assists.

Ok, now look at 1986. Mattingly vs Clemens.

Mattingly led the league in hits, doubles, slg%, OPS, and total bases, and won a GG to boot.

And lost the MVP to a guy who only played every 4 or 5 days.

You see how a Yankee fan could have a hard time reconciling the MVP vote in those 2 years.

Still bitter! :gaah:[/QUOTE]

I had forgotten about Clemens winning the MVP in 86.

I'm not a fan of pitcher winning that award, regardless of whether it's a Red Sox pitcher.

You're an idiot.

I wish my argument could be based on 'how I imagine pitchers felt.' Solid argument on your part

And you're still having a hard time explaining why his road stats are un-HOF like....must be some accident, right?

Next is the part where you make a racial comment because the rest of your argument is idiotic....

Jim Edmonds seems like a good case for this. Healthy or not he was one of the best defensive CF's of all time.

I mentioned J.R. a page back, so tragic when it happened....He was having a Cy Young year when he had his stroke....Guy was flat out dominant.....

Yes I had a hard time believing that it was the end of his career.

Mt brother batted against Frank Tanana in high school (as well) with pretty much the same result. Tanana was a beast.

With 2 MVPs , maybe Donnie Baseball isn't such a long shot HOFer. Just saying...

Juan Gonzalez fell off the ballot after two years, I don't see Dale Murphy's horn being tooted very often and Maris isn't really even discussed. It might have made a difference but I don't know that it would have been enough.
