You are correct. The Phillies are hoping that Saunders will turn it around so they can get something for him at
the trade deadline. Since the Philies are not playing to win now, they do not mind sacrificing losses.

I figure that if Saunders plays 4 games/week, 16 AB, gets a hit/game (.250), by the deadline July 31 in 7 weeks, he'll be at about .220/.237 with 7BB thrown in.

If he goes on a tear and hits .312, 5 hits/week, he'll reach .243 /.260, a little more respectable.

June 21, 2017. Phillies 10-game Status Report, 70 games into the season. The Pathetics go 1-9, , (1-13) now 8 games worse than last year. Starting pitching ERAs have improved slightly. Relief is an ongoing problem.
