Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune writes that James Paxton (finger) returning prior to August would be "optimistic."

Paxton has yet to resume a throwing program, although the Mariners hope he'll be able to at some point this week. He hasn’t thrown for nearly a month and will have to begin the program from scratch, so it will take weeks for him to be built back up sufficiently enough to rejoin the Mariners' rotation. The left-hander has been on the shelf since late May with a strained tendon in his left middle finger.

That's why it was essential for the Mariners to pick up another starter. 3/5 of the starting rotation was hurt last year.

He, Walker, and Kuma all had injury flags. Elias and Monty have bailed them out, but can they continue their respective magic all season? Will it even matter?

You misspelled "better then paxton and kuma were doing" :)

You don't think Elias and Montgomery have done a good job? As a whole they've been great.

I actually think Paxton looked pretty good his last 6 or 7 starts. Kuma on the other hand didn't look good at all. Personally I would consider trading Kuma if there is any interest in him when he gets back from injury.

But yeah Montgomery and Elias have been awesome so far. Elias actually has more starts than Paxton. 11 Starts for Elias 8 of them quality, Montgomery has 5 starts 4 of them quality. Can't ask for much more than that.

Hopefully he doesn't continue to have issues w/ his finger... Jeremy Affeldt was a starter but he kept having issues with his finger after throwing multiple innings in one game... That's why he was moved to the bullpen... He kept getting blisters on his fingers throwing more than 3 innings a game...

I hope this isn't going to be the case w/ Paxton...

No no I meant that Elias and Monty have done much better then paxton and Kuma did while healthy. Paxton had some good starts, but was dreadful at the beginning of the year.
