Packers to re-sign RB Christine Michael

Free-agent running back Christine Michael has agreed to rejoin the Green Bay Packers, a source told ESPN's Field Yates.

The Packers claimed Michael off waivers on Nov. 16 to help offset the loss of Eddie Lacy and James Starks to injuries.

This signing makes good sense... Ted Thompson avoids overspending on free agents and relies more on the draft.

Yeah, I like this too. We have about the same total season potential out of him as a guy like Jamaal Charles, but at a fraction of the cost.

The downside is that we could still use a halfback who can be relied upon to convert on 3rd & 1 between the tackles. I'd rather not have to rely on Rip for that again... let him lead block.

Michael is a perfectly serviceable back. In today's NFL, you can be more than fine with a group of 2-3 guys who combine to do everything well. The days of building around one workhorse RB are nearly over. There will likely always be a few studs in the league, but the team's with most success offensively recently tell the story. NE, ATL, GB... etc...
