New Netflix drama, starring and directed by Jason Bateman. Also has Laura Linney opposite him. It apparently has a plot that revolves around crime as well.

Will anyone check it out? I'm a little tentative because I'm not the biggest fan of Bateman in drama roles (see "Hancock"). I do like him in comedic roles for the most part, but I just don't feel that he can pull off a serious acting role where he has to transmit how he feels to the audience without actually speaking sometimes.

The show currently has a 67 on Metacritic. One critic described it as the opposite of "Breaking Bad," saying:

"Bateman's commanding performance powers a gripping, twisty, sometimes spotty yarn that plays like Breaking Bad in reverse, a darkly comic deconstruction of antihero fantasy about a man flailing to rediscover the value of human life."

I think I will check it out. I fucking love crime drama's, whether on film or television. I haven't seen any of it yet, but I will say that before Bryan Cranston was cast in BB, he was largely known as a comedic actor, particularly for his role in "Malcolm in the Middle." Also, that show's first season good good reviews, but nowhere close to the critical acclaim subsequent seasons got (I think the first season of BB had a 74 on Metacritic).

Maybe Bateman can catch lightening in a bottle with "Ozark."

Don't know if I've ever seen Bateman in a dramatic role (and I have seen Hancock, don't know how that's classified as a drama for you). I will eventually get around to catching it, though. Like me some Bateman, mostly due to Arrested Development.

The Gift was a drama. And Bateman did pretty well, IMHO.

I just binge-watched 10 episodes from the first season.

Anyone else watch this?

How was it?
It was certainly interesting.
I mean, I liked Banshee and Breaking Bad, and this seemed like a cross between the two.

It took me a few episodes, but pay close attention to the opening scene of each episode when they flash the 'O' and there are 4 items that you can see. I didn't realize they change with each episode, but they are connected to what happens in the episode.

All in all, it held my interest as I watched these past three nights.
Some clever twists, some tired cliches, but overall, it was entertaining.
I recommend it.

Awesome. I'm 30 minutes into the pilot, but want to go for a walk now. I am enjoying it though. Will try to finish the first and second episodes tomorrow.

Just finished this this evening. Pretty good.

The casting of Linney as Bateman's wife was a bit odd. They had very little chemistry, I thought, and she looks way older than she is. And oddly, she oldest in the flashback episode.

Julia Garner stole the show as Ruth, though. Maybe a bit of over-acting, but nothing too bad.

Two episodes in. I am enjoying it. Bateman's acting (and directing) is good thus far.

Only seen the first episode.

Am I crazy in thinking that people from Chicago don't know about the lake of the Ozarks? Its where all of the rich people in Missouri have their summer home and all of the middle class people keep a rich friend so they can party in the summer.

The opening episode showing Chicago with empty streets being in a pivotal scene seems totally surreal. I have never seen major Chicago streets even remotely empty let alone completely empty.

Somehow I'm reluctant to finish this up but I feel like I'm obligated because I've gone to the Lake of the Ozarks almost every year of my life and I've seen some crazy shit but its all been in the name of fun.

I liked the show but the ending wasn't much of a surprise to me. Looking forward to seeing the next season.

Pretty sure the flashbacks of Linney looking 'older' even though they were earlier, were on purpose, because she was all fucked up after losing the kid after the accident.

Solid show.

Recommend.

But in the car (before the accident), she looked ancient. It totally threw me off.
