February 18th: Games outside of the Top 25

Big news! Listen up!

Starting on Wednesday, I'll be back doing regular posts on this thread as the regular season winds down. And to start it off, I'll be doing my own brand of bracketology! More details later...

But for right now, let's see what games we can watch OUTSIDE of the rankings: (All times are Eastern)

Clemson @ Miami (12:00)
Northern Iowa @ Wichita State (12:00)
Liberty @ Winthrop (2:00)
St. Bonaventure @ Dayton (2:00)
East Tennessee State @ Chattanooga (5:00)
Ole Miss @ Arkansas (6:00)
TCU @ Iowa State (6:00)

Xavier @ Marquette (8:00)
North Dakota @ Weber State (9:00)

Bracketology: Part 1

I'm back! But before I leaf through the schedule, let's get to my bracketology. Now ESPN will throw around fancy stuff in THEIR bracketology, like "RPI" and "Quality wins" and "SOS", and they have the right to do it (They gotta fill 24 hours SOMEHOW).
But to me, that's too complicated. So let me simplify all this for you as I show you where everyone stands right now in the NCAA race... only for conferences with a chance at NCAA at-large spots, of course. (Sorry, American East conference):

ACC:
IN:
Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Florida State, Notre Dame, Miami, Virginia.
Just a little bit more!: Virginia Tech, Syracuse.
Needs a LOT of help to make it: Georgia Tech, Wake Forest.
No chance: Clemson and everyone else.

American:
IN:
Cincinnati, SMU.
Needs a LOT of help: Houston, Memphis.

Big 12:
IN:
Kansas, West Virginia, Baylor, Iowa State.
Just a little bit more!: Oklahoma State, TCU.
No chance: Kansas State, Texas Tech.

Big 10:
IN:
Purdue, Maryland, Wisconsin.
Just a little bit more: Minnesota, Northwestern.
Needs a LOT of help: Michigan State, Michigan.
No chance: Iowa, Indiana.

Big East:
IN:
Villanova, Butler, Creighton.
Just a little bit more!: Xavier, Marquette.
Needs a LOT of help: Seton Hall, Georgetown.

PAC-12:
IN:
Arizona, UCLA, USC, Oregon.
Just a little bit more!: California.
Needs a LOT of help: Utah, Colorado.

SEC:
IN:
Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina
Just a little bit more!: Arkansas.
Needs a LOT of help: Alabama, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Ole Miss.

To be continued in my next post...

Bracketology- Part 2

Now for the hard part: Going away from the "Power 7" conferences and finding leagues that could get NCAA at-large spots. Don't worry; there ARE a few of them! Take a look:

Atlantic 10:
IN:
Dayton, VCU.
Just a little bit more!: Rhode Island.
Needs a LOT of help: George Mason, Richmond.

Horizon League:
Needs a LOT of help:
Valparaiso, Oakland.

Missouri Valley:
IN:
Wichita State.
Just a little bit more!: Illinois State.

Mountain West:
Just a little bit more!:
Nevada.
Needs a LOT of help: Colorado State, Boise State.

WCC:
IN:
Gonzaga, Saint Mary's.
No chance: BYU.

Other teams that the "Power 7" conferences will worry about: Middle Tennessee (C-USA), Monmouth [again] (MAAC), UT-Arlington (Sun Belt), and UNC-Wilmington (CAA).

...Whew! Well, I'm done. Do whatever you want with these picks, and I'll check back later.

2/25 recap (Part 1- Top 25)

So, did anything else happened yesterday besides Gonzaga losing? Let's see...

Villanova over Creighton 79-63
UCLA over Arizona 77-72
(And ESPN STILL has UCLA as a #4 seed? That's strange.)
Oregon over Stanford 75-73
Iowa State over Baylor 72-69 (Let's pencil in Iowa State for the NCAA's right now.)
Miami over Duke 55-50
Kentucky over Florida 76-66
West Virginia over TCU 61-60
Michigan upsets Purdue 82-70
Florida State over Clemson 76-74
Iowa upsets Maryland 83-69

And on a completely different note, Indiana somehow rallies to stun Northwestern. Oh no... Are the Wildcats REALLY going to choke away an NCAA bid?

2/26 recap

...I guess after that game against Louisville, the Orange still has some work to do to secure an NCAA spot. As for what else happened yesterday, here:

UCF upsets Cincinnati 53-49 ( Uh oh! Is UCF gonna be another team to worry about come Selection Sunday? ...Eh, not really.)
Butler over Xavier 88-79 (Xavier's downward slide, now THAT'S something to worry about.)
Michigan State over Wisconsin 84-74
Notre Dame over Georgia Tech 64-60
Middle Tennessee over UAB 66-64 (The Blue Raiders just won it's 1st C-USA title EVER. Will it give them an at-large NCAA bid?)
Houston over Memphis 72-71
Arizona State upsets USC 83-82

More madness to come in the next post...
