I would also add that this OTA period is huge for the Broncos in big part because of having a new QB. The team needs to see how he handles being the man and he needs to work on timing with the receivers while also taking in the entire playbook. I'm happy that the WR's and Keenum are planning a passing camp later in June to prepare for Training Camp as again that should be a good time for them to get on the same page.

Guys like Von Miller yes not as big of a deal for him to be there. I would have him do more work of just communicating with the young guys than actually risking injury doing drills. Same with the other veterans on defense. Give the young guys some reps and just help them out.

Brandon Marshall has decided to slim down for this upcoming season. He is at 228 (down 10 lbs from last year) and hoping by training camp to be at 227.

Damn, he lost 5 lbs last week? He had told me last week he had lost 5 lbs and wanted to lose 5 more lbs. But that was quick!

Well when you are working out like they do I would bet 5 lbs. comes off pretty easy. The issue is more was it a good 5 lbs. to lose. Don't want to lose muscle in the process.

DC can hide 10 lbs of ugly muscle - if he puts one of Springstein's hats on his head. OTA

The rookies getting the most praise from veterans so far are Chubb, Sutton, and Jewell. In the 6 OTA practices so far all have been mentioned to be making plays left and right.

Other comments made about rookies...Hamilton has gotten some praise from coaches for his route running ability

Freeman the only comment made so far is about his need to show he can be counted on to block. Given they haven't been in pads yet so hard to fully know how he will handle this part of the game.

Some have criticized the Broncos for how they set up things coaching staff wise this offseason such as not hiring a true OLB coach to work with our pass rushers. Joe Woods explained that the reason they are doing things the way they are is because they spend so much time in subpackages that he wants his pass rushers to be in all of those meetings and learning all the stunts with the interior DL players. They still have OLB drills where they work on dropping into coverage and such, but he wanted those players all working together to get after the QB.

I would highly recommend listening to the interview on DB.com of our new Special Teams Coordinator. Very intelligent man. Kind of the opposite of what we had last year with a very rah rah get you pumped guy in Olivo to now more of the thinker type that is going to win with outsmarting the opponent.

Right now sounds like the Broncos have 7 guys competing for the Punt Returner position.

Shane Ray still bothered by his wrist injury.

Just shows why the Broncos were so leery about giving him that 5th year option. Shane Ray has talent but all of these injuries just keep adding up to him being the player that doesn't live up to his potential.

DT and Sanders both missed practice yesterday for personal reasons. The Bronco rookies were given an opportunity to work with the #1 offense and both showed really well. Courtland Sutton remains the talk of the town among those observing practice.

Freeman is also impressing the more they get into practices.

Paxton Lynch has been working hard to rebuild his reputation among teammates and coaches. He is said to be showing up early and leaving late every single day, shows better command of the offense than last year, and has been communicating with teammates outside of practice much more frequently. So far it has led to him looking good in practices so far. Long ways to go but much better narrative about him than last year with his video game addiction.

Regarding Lynch... After he admitted that the reason he broke down on the sidelines for 15 mins last year after he bruised his shoulder in a dismal performance for himself and rest of team, that the time he would miss more was the video games during rehab/ leadership roles for QBs 101/ do's and donts's as a NFL Qb, etc.

Shane Ray to have another wrist surgery and will miss the start of the season again.

At this point the wrist is chronic issue. It may derail his career.

At this time he needs to take matters into his own hands and seek a different doctor than the Broncos team docs.
He was a warrior trying to play last year and now the team doctors have maybe derailed his whole football career.

I know this is early in the process but this is the fun time to make some guesses and see what happens...Who wins the competitions that are going to happen at camp?

1) Back up QB: Paxton Lynch or Chad Kelly
2) RB: Devontae Booker, Royce Freeman, D. Henderson, David Williams, or Phllip Lindsay
3) FB: Does Andy Janovich make this team: Yes or No
4) RG: Connor McGovern, Menelik Watson, or Billy Turner
5) ILB: Todd Davis or Josey Jewell
6) PR: Isaiah McKenzie, Brendan Langley, Jordan Taylor, Phillip Lindsay, or Carlos Henderson
7) TE: Jake Butt, Jeff Heuerman, Troy Fumagali, or Austin Traylor
8) Players kept for the DL: Wolfe, Peko, Gotsis, Kerr, Peko, Harris, Walker, McDonald. (Hint they kept 7 coming out of camp last year)

Running backs will be a three headed committee but Booker will get the start at the beginning of the season.

1) Back up QB: Paxton Lynch - contrarian view
2) RB: Royce Freeman - if he's going to get OROY, I'm thinking he will end up starting!
3) FB: Does Andy Janovich make this team: Yes - special teams is his passport
4) RG: Menelik Watson - that's got to be the only reason he wasn't cut!
5) ILB: Todd Davis for the start, Josey for the finish
6) PR: clueless in Colorado Springs
7) TE: Jake Butt - keeping Charmin happy
8) Players kept for the DL: Wolfe, Peko, Gotsis, Kerr, Harris, Walker, McDonald. (Hint they kept 7 coming out of camp last year) - if everyone is healthy, little Peko is on his way out

I'll go...

1) Paxton Lynch. Seems to have a much more committed attitude to this season and Kelly has been struggling quite a bit.
2) Royce Freeman. Haven't given up on Booker as he will have a role, but just seems like people around the building are pretty excited about Freeman.
3) Janovich will not make this team.
4) McGovern
5) Todd Davis. As much as I love Jewell I just think the coaches will appreciate having a veteran in to start the season.
6) Isaiah McKenzie. So far hearing good things about him in OTA's and feel like he is coming in with a different attitude this year.
7) Jake Butt. Easiest pick of the group
8) Wolfe, Peko, Gotsis, Kerr, Harris, Walker, McDonald.

Mandatory Mini-Camp has arrived. Thankfully the Broncos are not one of the teams with a player holding out.

Players that were out last week continue to be this week. Big news is that McDonald did not pass his physical. Shoulder still very much bothering him. Broncos changed up his contract where it is mostly now based on if he makes the 53-man roster or not.

Big non-Bronco information today is that Andrew Luck has finally started throwing a football again.

I saw that DT had a minor foot injury today. Nothing serious. If it was regular season he would have kept practicing through it.
