their list is pretty solid.

White Stripes - "7 Nation Army" is up there.
Ozzy - "Crazy Train"
Sabbath - "Iron man", "Sweet Leaf", "NIB", etc...
Judas Priest -"Breakin' the Law"

I would need some time to put together a favourites list.

Lot to choose from, too. Been thinking about this most of the afternoon.

"Money for nothing"
"Immigrant Song"
"Pride and Joy"
"Cocaine", "Layla"
"I love Rock and Roll"

Free - All Right Now
Kinks - You really Got Me
Velvet Underground - Sweet Jane
Iggy Pop & the Stooges - I wanna be your dog
Ramones - Sedated

so many to choose from.

Smoke on the Water should probably be number one, for simplicity, recognizability, and longevity

I can't hear that without thinking of my friend who worked in a music store. They hung a sign above the guitars "Anyone caught playing 'Smoke on the Water' will be asked to leave"

Apparently, they heard it a lot.

I'll just throw 5 out there for fun...

Hold Your Head Up - Argent
25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago
Road House Blues - The Doors
Wipe Out - Surfari's
Chilliwack - Trial By Fire (ok, not as iconic as the rest but a smokin' riff from "Too Loud" McLeod)

Jeff Healey Band - While my Guitar Gently Weeps (yes, a cover, but a damn fine one and great guitar work by Jeff)

someday, when we get around to discussing the greatest covers of all time - that one is up there. And there are not many people who can adequately cover the Beatles. The fact that he blew the original out of the water? Unreal.

Oh, what the hell. Off the top of me head.
Jeff Healey - While my Guitar Gently Weeps
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground
Indigo Girls - Uncle John's Band
Ugly Kid Joe - Cat's in the Cradle
Metallica - Whiskey in the Jar, Turn the Page and/or Stone Cold Crazy

Can I nominate the Grateful Dead's cover of El Paso (the old Marty Robbins song). It may not be the best ever, but it's certainly one of my favorites.

Streetheart does a fine cover of the Stones "Under My Thumb" - About 3:00 minutes in, the guitarist has fun for about 120 seconds.

ooh covers...

Judas Priest - "Diamonds and Rust (Joan Baez)
Twilight Singers - "Live With Me" (Massive Attack)
Jimi Hendrix - "All along the Watchtower" (Bob Dylan)
Concrete Blonde - "Everybody Knows" (Leonard Cohen)
Twilight Singers (again) - "Hyperballad" (Bjork)
Judas Priest (again) - "Green Manalishi" (Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac)

this one's worth linking, as it was a fairly deep cut, but is such an awesome treatment of Fleetwood Mac

Tool's version of Led Zeppelin's No Quarter is one of my favourite covers.

Concrete Blonde - "Everybody Knows" (Leonard Cohen)

You know, I almost included that one but thought "I doubt anyone has heard it."

Fantastic song and an amazing rendition. Part of a severely underrated soundtrack.

Getting back to great guitar riffs, how about "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream?

ooh that's a good one.

the Smith's "How Soon is Now" is pretty epic, if impossible to replicate
