I'm probably (up to 1999) a bigger Star Wars fan than anyone that posts here, and I have to say, this is amazing news.

Star Wars has been constrained to Lucas's vision up to now. And Lucas's vision went to shit about half way through ROTJ. Just think of where Star Wars could go in the hands of the next Peter Jackson or Christopher Nolan. Both those guys took existing, beloved franchises, put their stamp on them, and took them to a new level.

Is there a risk Disney kidifies it? No, because it's already been kidified. You can't do much worse than parts of the prequel trilogy. The franchise has already been saturated to shit. I'm willing to risk a few bad movies if it means we might get a good star wars movie in the future. There isn't much sci-fi in film these days, and Star Wars is one of the few viable, profitable, sci-fi franchises - Disney won't want to screw that up. They've also shown great care with Marvel.

I'm pumped. Whoever they choose to direct EP7 will have a huge effect on that though.
