The Orioles are willing to trade catcher Matt Wieters, sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). An extension is unlikely for the Scott Boras client and the Orioles believe that he is set to hit the open market after the 2015 season, barring a dramatic change in thinking.
Wieters, 27, had a solid season in 2013 (.235/.287/.417 with 22 homers) but it wasn't quite on the level of his previous two campaigns. Rosenthal suggested over the weekend that the O's could conceivably move Wieters and target a replacement such as Jarrod Saltalamacchia on the open market. If the Orioles move him now, however, it'll be selling low on one of the best young catchers in baseball.

High price will be on him i'd imagine.

The sooner, the better. O's front office tried at the end of the '11 and '12 season to sign him to an extension, and Wieters balked both times. He had a down year this year, and I feel like he is now on his downward slide. Get him out of Baltimore while he still has value.

Check out front page of ESPN/MLB today. Bowden in a video explains why he thinks now would be a good time to trade Wieters and what we could get in return.

If Weiters will accept a 3 yr 24 M deal, he can stay. Otherwise, let's move him...

At this point, I definitely would be all for trading him if we can get a decent return back for him. Especially if he doesn't have any real desire to continue his career here. I'd much rather extended Chris Davis since he sounds like he would love to play in Baltimore for a long time.
While I don't mind Wieters behind the plate, I have been disappointed with his lack of offensive production.
